Reliability: 2012 650i

Hi, all. Thanks for the add. Thinking about picking up a one owner 2012 650i coupe. Currently has approximately 15,000 miles with a clean carfax. I'm loving the low miles, and the car appears to be neat as a pin. However, I'm reading the 2012 650i coupes were not terribly reliable. Any insight? Thank you in advance for any feedback or input.

Unless it is very cheap, I personally would not buy a 2012. It might be fine, but the 2012 had a troublesome engine that was greatly redesigned by 2013. And you get about 45 more horsepower in the newer cars. Those first generation N63 engines were sort of recalled, but BMW called it a Customer Care Program. At a minimum you'd want to find out what was done to that car under the program. It could be a little or a lot. The price differences between years is not so great that a 2013 or 2014 would cost that much more, and maybe no more.

I bought a ‘12 with 45k miles and it’s great. No issues. No oil burn. Mine has had the customer program done.
