strange sounds from the car

Hi guys, 2014 M6 GC, 60k miles, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my issues aren't the fatal kind. I was coasting along, and get the engine overheating warning and to drive moderately. I had my oil changed about 400 miles/2 months ago. I get another warning that the engine coolant is low and to fill it.
After reaching my destination (luckily, it was a short distance- 2 miles away), I checked engine oil and it is at max level. Car remains parked for a couple of hours.
I drive back home (12 miles) and again towards reaching home, get the 'engine overheating' warning. After parking in the garage, I open the hood and see oil splattered in a few places. After shutting down the car, and an hour later, I continue to hear 'cranking' noises. No CEL or anything, and I don't have any warnings other than the 'fill coolant' warning.
I'm going to put a call in to BMW service tomorrow and probably have the car towed there, but let me know if anyone has any advice.

Have you checked that? It's a pretty good reason for overheating. Check to see if you have any leaks after you refill it.
