Discontinued Tires

I bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ a year ago and just got a bubble in one of the front tires. Seems they are aren't available for sale anymore and TireRack says due to four wheel drive I need to have all four tires the same so as not to damage the transfer case. Have less than 10,000 miles on the tires so don't want to replace all four. Any thoughts or recommendations? Tried searching online for the tire but doesn't seem to be available anywhere (need 245/35/ZR20).

There are slight variances between brands of the same size, but not enough to damage anything. Whoever you talked to is just trying to sell you 4 tires instead of 1. If you get another Michelin model chances are it'll be exactly the same, but even a different brand is not going to make a hill of beans.

I agree with the above reply. The only real issue is the difference in diameter of the new tire and the old tires. TireRack will "shave" a new tire ~$25 so that it can match the diameter of the older tires. Check the tread depth of the old tires and have them shave the new one to that depth.

Car makers have a standard for the allowable difference between tire tread depth. I don't know what BMW's is, but you'd be safe with 2/32" difference. A new tire like yours will be about 11/32" - sometimes 10/32". If yours is 8 to 9/32" you'll be fine if you don't want to get it shaved.

Also, why is the bubble not covered under the warranty? Less than 10k and a year old should still be under warranty.

Not covered because it's discontinued.

Same exact issue as OP but due to a pothole. I purchased my AS3's in April of 2021 from Tire Rack, now discontinued, and they will not honor the Road Hazard. Salesman informed me last night that they were already discontinued when I bought them, so my reasoning is why did they sell me the road hazard if they knew they could not honor it? I am hoping they may reconsider if I purchase 2 fronts in the AS4 flavor. Still working on pushing back on them.

Rim is getting repaired.

Would like to know what OP did to resolve this issue.
