Rear Brakes due...questions

Dealer wants $1700 for install...both pads and rotors.

Do I need to replace rotors after 45k miles? No judder or other issues. i understand these rotors can't be turned or skimmed.

Anyone use Hawk pads on an M6?

Are there any cracks in the rotors near the end of the lip or the hub? Are there any cracks approaching 1 inch in length? If so, the rotors are done.

have a look at them

I am no mechanic ... but if the entire disc looks as such on both, I don't think the reason for the recommendation is a crack!

could the thickness of the rotors be the issue?

I'd ask why they recommend the change and perhaps even get a second opinion

Mine look the same and I track the car

Hope this helps

Thickness will be a huge factor.... have them provide the threshold in mm for replacement. This would be valuable info for the forum community as well.

I'd get them to measure the thickness and assess the need ... if you don't drive hard and thus break hard they will not wear as fast ... then there is the issue of how much you drive ... the less you drive the less wear

Man ... I hate when it comes down to "its time to change them"

My guy said to replace pads only, scheduled for next Tuesday. Will the sensor auto reset the mileage due warning in iDrive?
