F12, 640i convertible Hood issue
Hello guys, New here . I have purchased a 2011 640i convertible. I washed my car yesterday and I noticed water seeped inside. After i checked I found one part in the hood cut. Plz check the photo attached. Please if anyone can help me with part number or how can order it online. I went to BMW but they do not have it in stock. Thanks |

I accidentally just deleted a long reply. The short version is that the part is about $650.00 online and is probably a big job to replace. But I may have a better solution for nearly free that I will type later today.

I can supply the part number if you really want to buy it. You can find installation instructions on the NewTIS site. Just search for terms like "soft top seal."
Anyway, the potentially good news is that the type of rubber the seals like that are made of usually glues quite permanently with cyanoacrylate glues. That is the official name of the family of glues that includes Super Glue. But there are better versions than plain old Super Glue. Go online and buy some HG Power Glue. You do not need to use the powder it comes with for this project, just the glue. The hard part may be getting the seal in a position where you can hold the two ends of the break together because you won't be able to glue it with the top fully up. But if you can figure that out, cover everything around carefully, practice putting the ends together a couple times, weep a bit of glue around one broken end and press together for a minute. You don't need to press hard so that you deform the rubber. They just need to meet. If you do it correctly, it may well hold for the life of the car. Last edited by Opie55; 09-17-2020 at 04:27 PM.. |
