6 vs 5 length...

I saw a nice new 530i the other day, and for some reason it looked kinda LONG.
The 5 series has always looked significantly shorter to me than the 6.

So I looked up the dimensions to compare the 5 series to the 6 series, and I was really surprised to find that some 6 series are only an inch or 2 longer than the 5! Wow! So I guess the 5 series has been slowly growing, enough to end the 6 series entirely.

The 6 series has always been a little wider and lower than the 5. A much more beautiful car. I think some people buy a 5 because they might think the 6 is too big. Wrong. So glad I got a 6.

I may be wrong but I believe they share the same chassis.

The F10 M5 is 4 inches shorter than the 6GC in length, and the 6GC is 2 inches shorter in height. Both of these factors combined give the illusion that the 6 is much longer than it really is. I know I definitely prefer the long sleek look of the 6. And yes, they do share the same chassis underneath

That's awesome, I agree. 6 is a handsome car where as the 5 has become quite stretched.

I had a 2016 535 m-sport that was fully loaded. It was a bad ass car. But love the look of my 2016 6 series coupe.

Yes and the newer G30 5 series as referenced in the original post is about 2 inches shorter than the 6GC. But like you said, the 2 in lower height of the 6GC makes it appear longer than it actually is. It's also interesting to me the way 6GCs typically appear to be lower than 6 series coupes, even though the 6GC is actually slightly taller. In this case, the extra 6 inches of length on the GC is what makes it appear lower.

But actually providing info:

F10 and F06 share the same wheelbase, 2968mm. But the F10 is 4899mm long whereas F06 is 5007mm. While F12/F13 are 2855mm and 4894mm. So in the F10 chassis you've got 1931mm overhang in total but with the F06/12/13 you've got 2039mm.

The G30 is 2975mm in wheelbase so very similar to F10 with a 4936mm total length so similar but slightly bigger than F10 in terms of overhang at 1961mm.

Where it gets weird is with the 8, especially with the G16 GC. The G14/15 got shorter than the F12/13 in wheelbase at 2822mm instead of 2851mm (which was taken out of the rear leg room) Length is 4843mm so the overhang is 2021mm which is similar to the previous 5 and 6 where the overhang is longer.

BUT the new G16 has a 3023mm wheelbase making its wheelbase longer than the normal G30 5 series. Length is 5072mm which is 2049mm - different to the G14/15 because the rear boot/bumper is completely different whereas in the F06/12/13 all of the boot/bumper parts were shared.
