ynguldyn Just a quick question regarding the M2 CS which is supposed to be available in early 2018.In the upcoming model list you said the M2 CS is going to be a MY19 when it is released. Is the regular M2 also going to change to the MY19 model year when the M2 CS is released?

I removed the G32 info a couple of hours ago once the official PR came out.

Oh! That makes sense. I guess I glazed over the info when I last reviewed this thread. My bad!

Lightbulb Future BMW model information (Response Archive)

With the F13 EOP having moved up, do we expect the F12 and F06 EOPs to move up also?

You have to remember that it is the 116 - 120 that makes up the sales. The rest are just bonus models for the buyers. They higher end models will all be hybrid cars soon anyway as big engines are punished hard with taxes in big parts of the world.

I noticed MY2018 G30 order/pricing guides are out now and there is no 540d to be found. Trouble in diesel paradise, or simply not quite ready to launch this model?

I believe its fate is now in the hands of NA marketing/product people. The car is there, a whole bunch of prototypes is there, but then there's nothing after that. This could be a repeat of the US F31 and F34 RWD story - they were canceled at exactly this stage.

Yeah, we'll see. I've mentioned a few times that it doesn't feel like the right climate for BMW to be introducing more diesel passenger cars in the US. They've made it clear that their longterm strategy is eDrive and this seems to be the better bet. In many areas of the world governments are putting a lot of effort behind weening people off of diesel and into PHEVs.

I read some rumors that new 1 series f40 will be selling along with "old" f20 2.0 lci so BMW tests if they did the right thing with moving to FWD platform. This chould also be the reason why they made another facelift with noticable interior changes in 7th year of production. Shadow package is actually nothing special as BMW always makes some exclusive package at the end of lifetime. But as I know there never was interior upgrade with new dashboard.
So my question is: Can you tell us anything about end of production for f20? Is it July 2019 or might be later date?
For us Europeans that information would be very useful as 1 series is one of the most popular BMW models.. Affordable, fun and unique.
Thanks

No Self-Certification/Compliance/Conformity allowed by EPA on Light Duty Diesel Vehicles anymore. Until the EPA grants approval, diesel variants won't appear in the series' order guides.

Seriously? They really want to kill the Diesel engine and make us produce more CO2 and all the pollution required to import/refine/ship more oil? Very clever!

Ok, sure I'll buy that the hold-up could be due regulatory hurdles. But BMW could have planned ahead for that.

I don't see how the omission of the 540dx from the Q2 MY2018 US Order Guide demonstrates a lack of advance production plans. In fact, I see the exact opposite.

Statements like this aggravated an already difficult situation.

"...EPA officials have said little publicly about the enhanced testing, saying only that vehicles would be kept longer and tested in unpredictable ways. It is true that diesel vehicles are getting extra scrutiny and that has extended the certification process longer than normal. In general, manufacturers have been supportive of this additional testing and have adjusted their timing to account for the additional test duration."

The new Administration's behavior added gun powder to the fire. This week finally provided a target to aim for.

This occurred yesterday so it's probable the 2018 US Diesel Certifications will be complete very soon:

Agenda Item 15.3 Submitted 07.04.2017

United States of America

"Request to re-insert in the Compendium of Candidate global technical regulations United States of America Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation programmes for Light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emission standards and Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards (listing No. 11)

Submitted by the representative of the United States of America

The text reproduced below is submitted by the representative of the United States of America to the Executive Committee (AC.3) of the 1998 Agreement for consideration. It contains a request to re-insert in the Compendium of Candidates Listing Number 11 ? United States of America Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation programmes for Light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emission standards and Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards. Listing Number 11 was removed in 2016, at its expiry date, due to the lack of request to be re-affirmed in the Compendium. This request shall be voted in accordance to Article 7 of Annex B to the 1998 Agreement.

1. The United States of America, as a Contracting Party to the 1998 Global Agreement, administered by the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), is requesting that the following technical regulation listed in the Compendium of Candidates Global Technical Regulations be extended for a period of 5 additional years:
Listing Number 11 ? United States of America Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation programmes for Light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emission standards and Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards.

2. Reference is made in this respect to Article 5. paragraph 5.3.2. of the 1998 Agreement, which reads as follows:
"5.3.2. at the end of the 5-year period following the regulation?s listing under this Article, and at the end of each subsequent 5 year period, unless the Executive Committee reaffirms, by an affirmative vote in accordance with paragraph 7.1. of Article 7 of Annex B, the listing of the technical regulation in the Compendium of Candidates"

3. The voting shall follow the procedure of Article 7 of Annex B to the Agreement, which reads as follows:
"7.1. A national or regional regulation shall be listed in the Compendium of Candidates by an affirmative vote of either at least one-third of the total number of votes cast, whichever is more favourable to achieving an affirmative vote. In either case, the one-third shall include the vote of either the European Union, Japan or the United States of America, if any of them are Contracting Parties."

Well, your original reply was very general. I believe you are now saying, based on the date I see in the legalese you've posted, that there are some *brand new* regulatory factors at play now. Ok, fair enough. Though I am certainly not a lawyer, I can see how that may be the case. That being said it will be interesting to see if others who are about to launch diesels in the US - I believe Chevrolet, Mazda, and Jaguar all have new light duty models coming next quarter - will see similar challenges. And the F150 diesel is scheduled for early 2018 too, so there's another one to watch.
