I guess I’ll let my dogs know that they’ll be ferried around in this for the forseeable future.

The S58 would be cool but I think that’s a big stretch. The M2 and M4 coexist with same engine. But I don’t think bmw would do this with between the X1/2/3/4.
An M tuned B58 would be a great compromise-ish. Especially since us Yanks cannot get the M3 touring.
It could work if they discontinued the X4. The new 35i variant actually has way less torque than the previous generation despite the cars being heavier so upping the boost would definitely be beneficial. Not sure how much more power that platform could support but AMG was able to make it work with similar cars so.

For some reason, someone at bmw (probably from the bangle days) has confused controversial styling with great styling

Regardless of all of these considerations it simply can’t be done. It’s a fwd car with a transversely mounted motor. Fitting the B58 is not possible.

So this car is bigger than previous, taller, with a longer wheelbase, and a longer shell than the X1 upon which it’s based, but somehow all these things are supposed to enhance the agility. I just don’t see it.

However a DCT and LSD built into the transmission, that could be money.

The old X2 M35i is a surprisingly fun car, on and off the track. It is properly quick on a give and take road, and beating Vettes on a damp track has a charm of its own. Looking forward to try the new one (but won’t buy it).

I think design-wise the X1 is a much more cohesive package, sharp, no weirdness, so in my book the X1 M35i is the one to get.

Agreed on both points. I’ve enjoyed driving the X2 M35i every time I’ve driven one even though I can tell it’s fwd and not rwd, but it’s always been fun to drive. And the new X1 is much more cohesive.

If you’re gonna offer those things on this car, add these things to the M240, M340, M440, etc. At least those are actually quick. 5.2 seconds for a quad-tail pipe with compound brakes and M all-around isn’t what M is supposed to mean or stand for.
AGREED. What the fuck even is an X2?

Yes, of course. It was a real bmw and this is a fake one.

Hmm I’m sure all the BMW workers that build the parts and assemble the vehicle would tell you otherwise. It’s a BMW like it or not. You don’t decide that.

The X1 does look better. But the X2 looks great as well.

I actually think this looks good, but the price!!! so M35i is a 312 horsepower inline 4 (can do better, look at mercedes) for almost $60K with options???

seems like not too long ago I bought a X3 35i with ~360 horsepower for that price fully loaded

I guess I am out of touch with pricing, but makes me feel like my $95K M3 was a steal now

My wife's 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy fully loaded was $52K and that has a 3.5L V6 and more "options" than the X2 (granted I am sure the build quality is better on the BMW)

A loaded out 330i is basically the same price as a loaded out X1 M35i or X2 M35i and M240i (coupe not GC). I’d need to experience the X1/X2 in person, but I think I’d choose the 330i if I were shopping for a single daily driver BMW in the ~$60k range.

The worst part is that the driving dynamics might not even be as good as the price and looks suggest, considering that the power figures are not really an improvement over the previous generation
