Latest Idrive on your 6

you think Bimmertech will release an retrofit to have the latest idrive setup in our cars?

i took my car to the dealer for some warrenty work (failed front strut)

and was given a x3m40 2020 for 5 days

for what it was i loved it! more so the idrive and the B58 engine.

the 640 should have came with the B58 in the lci versions tbh. but i do hope they make a retrofit kit for the latest idrive. dont need the cluster update so much but the maps are 100 times better then what my 2016 nbt has.

latest idrive and b58 would have made the perfect 640i

but i still love this thing!!

what do you guys think?

Highly unlikely. MGU/iDrive7 is very very different to iDrive. For starters it uses a brand new connector. Also many of the external components are now integrated into the unit, and it communicates over different bus networks in the car. With enough money and time anything is possible, but I don't think there's likely to ever be a financially viable retrofit.

It may be possible on newer cars that have a BDC but even then you would need a converter to convert the signals to KCan4

It’s funny your comment about the loaner, because I have a 2020 440i Coupe right now as a loaner while my F06 gets work done, and all I can think is “I wish this was how the turn signal stalk worked in my car.”

I still find myself hitting them an extra time, or leaving them on on accident, or hitting the stalk too far and indicate right, when I mean to cancel the left blinker. It’s one thing I definitely prefer about my E38.

They cancel if you tap them again in the same direction.

This is the annoying "triple turn signal " feature. It can be disabled in the idrive settings menu. Once disabled the turn signals function as conventional signals.
