Trunk won't open.

Somehow my trunk won't open. I push the key fob button and also the inside trunk button and nothing happens.

I know there's a trunk lock button inside the center console, I've checked it and it's in the unlocked position, yet the trunk doesn't open...

I think the guys at the car wash messed something up...

I'm taking it to BMW tomorrow, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

Searched and couldn't find an answer. My trunk will open using the interior button near the footwell, and it will open using the FOB trunk release button.

However it will not open by pressing the trunk roundel emblem where the backup camera is at. Anybody with a similar issue? TIA.

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but is it normal for the trunk lid to stay down even when the trunk is unlocked (either using the key fob or the dash button)? There is the occasional time where it does open, but most times it just unlocks and stays down.

Is there a way I can get the lid to open up? Should I be spraying a lubricant somewhere?

Thanks

At this time of year...living in the Great Lakes region...cold temperatures will affect the trunk's pressurized gas spring/shock/struts and they normally will not lift the lid without help. If you park in a heat regulated garage and the ambient temp is around 75° F...or when the ambient temps rise again in late spring/summer/early fall...then the trunk lid may end up opening up further without assistance. The ambient temperature has noticeable affects on the pressurized gas spring/shock/struts used to raise/lower the trunk lid.

Thanks for the response, Qsilver7.

That makes sense but even during the warm months of summer, it hardly ever rose without help.

Should I mention this to the dealer as my car is still under warranty?

Thanks

Yes, they will replace the pressurized gas springs.

And all this time I thought BMW ED stood for European Delivery. Now I know it has nothing to do with that

Well, after BMW treats this problem, they may just ask to call them back if the lid doesn't go back down after 4 hours.

Yes! Seems like the side effects of BMW trunk ED are the same as the other ED:
headache
flushing
upset stomach
back pain
muscle pain
nausea

O M G ... I'm just now getting this joke...it took a whole day

I was thinking BMW ED was referring to "education".
