Front end creaking

Really annoying but I'm getting a creaking from the front suspension. I'm hearing it over bumps and when turning at slow speeds say under 20mph. The creaking is more annoying than anything else. Steering seems a little vague offcentre but I'm not sure if this is in my head. I've watched every possible creak video and most say controls or ball joints are the culprit. Has anyone had this specifically on the 6er? Many thanks guys

First thing I'd check would be control arms and bushings. Pretty common across all BMWs I've owned. I had just posted in another thread, in fact - this is one of those items that just needs to be routinely checked and replaced from time to time with age. They take a beating as you drive, especially if you have poor roads in the area.

I own several BMW’s now and have owned others in the past. They all have the creaking sound, most noticeable in cooler climates though. Once it warms up, it should get better or even go away. The bushings are the culprits. They start to harden or crack over time as they are exposed to temperature variations and assorted chemicals. They can be replaced or you just live with it for a while.

i had something similar, i jacked up the car a few times and then let it down a few times. the sound was clearly coming from the top arm, bough new one, after taking it apart it turned out to be a clip from a cheap MDF wardrobe shot up and wedged grrrrr.

unlikley to be the same but i would try jacking up and down a few times to diagnose

I’m experiencing the same in addition to slight front end vibration. Prognosis is tension/strut arms. Got it on the lift and concluded that’s the culprit. Can’t wait to fix it. I just got my F06 GC and the vibration has been making it hard for me to love the car. I’m still getting used to the heavy, floaty feeling, but if that doesn’t get better I’m going full coilovers.

Stopped by my dealer last month to complain about the issue and conclusion was the bushings were drying out and squeaking. None cracked or in need of immediate replacement, but definately annoying.
