LS1 Twin Turbo Rx7

My friend recently picked up his car from a guy who was developing headlights for the RX7. I went with him to pick up his car and I decided to snap some pictures and some video on my flip cam.

The person who build the hid kit, left the car out in the rain and basically a bunch of stuff rusted, so my friend is going to go through it all and clean up the engine bay

List of mods:
Precision 61mm P-trim turbos with T-3/5-bolt hot side
-3in downpipes merging into a single 3.5 downpipe
-Precision Intercooler
-Tial 42mm wastegates
-Tial 50mm bov
-4.10 Gear
-Built LS1 Block

9psi = 602whp

The FD RX-7 to me is one of the most timeless designs ever. I'd love to own one some day.

I love the FD, I love the LS1, I love twin turbos on an LS1 swap in an FD, but....

WTF is with the hole in the hood? The FD has such clean lines and a very striking visual appearance. That hole and the lights seem to throw it off big-time. Does your friend plan on cleaning it up a bit?

He put that hole there because it gets extremely hot, he just purchased a new hood. Long story his old feed hood, was on the car before and the hood latch broke and the hood was smashed, he did this for temp. till his vented hood comes in. And for the headlights, the guy who made it did not yet give him a finalized bracket that will fill the void in the headlight

His car went through more stages then the cars I have had

Setup before the LS1 swap

Yeah but with the inherent lightness of the car itself, I'm sure it's still incredibly light.... Good Lord, 602whp in that thing.... Must be kinda like riding a rocket bareback.

Damn, that car would be fast enough with just the LS1 and 4.10s. TT is insane!

Oh, and worst vid ever. Unless you were showing off your buddy's smile.

Wow, LS1s are insane! And I agree, the FD3S has one of the most timeless JDM Sport coupe designs... beauty to look at!

FDs are between 2789 and 2923 lbs stock. Most USDM models (excepting the R1/R2) are about 2825. Average Ellis Juan swap adds about 50lbs, ish.

Main cat is about 70lbs. Power steering, A/C, cruise control, and a few other things (like a better, lighter battery) can save you another 50ish.

Most LS1 powered FDs weigh in around 2700-2750 with full interior but no A/C or power steering (few bother to keep those things around and fit them in the engine bay when doing a swap, though it's possible).

Don't know what the turbo setup adds, but I'd bet in the range of 50-75lbs with FMIC; a set of stock twins for the FD weighs about 33lbs.

600 RWHP seems a little low for a built LS1 on 9psi. Love the car.

That thing must a beast. Did your friend get to take it out on the track or at autocross events? Is it nose heavy or pretty balanced?

What is in the plans for the car, and where will it be used?

It is joes car. He picked up a new car on the way and let another friend drive it. The car is only at that low power as the car does not like to go straight ha. The car has had som changes in the last few years.
