Blacking Out F13 Advice
Hey guys,
Purchased my car about a month ago. 2012 BMW 650i 6 Speed Manual with 23k miles. In the process currently of blacking it out. I have done the grill, logos, rear chrome 650i badge, door handles, and reflectors so far. I am waiting for it to get a little warmer to wrap the chrome trim. Has anyone ever taken off their chrome side markers? I am trying to think of the best way to black them out. Should I paint them or wrap them? Waiting for the wheel guy to call me but I am going to powder coat the rims with Kingsport Grey I think, unless anyone has any better suggestions? Anyone else have any more tips or tricks to make this blackout look better? Last edited by JULIAND; 12-29-2018 at 07:18 PM.. |

I would love to see pictures if you black out the chrome side markers. I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing and came across these, https://ind-distribution.com/product?sku=IND-F12LCI-SM. However, the price seems a bit steep for what it is. I also just did my front grill and reflectors as well as debadging, though I went with a glossy black tri-color M-sport grill (I finally managed to find one without the M6 badge placeholder!)

Oh wow those side markers are perfect. But yes $230 is a little pricey...
I think I am going to try to pop off the side markers soon and see if I can wrap them. I feel like they would be relatively easy to paint as well but not too sure how that would come out. I will for sure let you know what I end up doing. Thanks for showing me those painted markers! |

Thanks for the information! Since I got the painted front reflectors, I’m worried that replacing these chrome side markers with body colored (black sapphire in my case) markers may just be too... boring. I like the idea of wrapping them and now that I know they just pop off, I may give wrapping them with carbon fiber wrap a go. If a got a small sample sheet, it may even be enough for the side view mirrors as well.

If you mean the pic below...if I may speak for them...it looks like it might be a pic capture from the online BMW TIS website (please correct me if I'm wrong ). Here's a link (below) to that site which can offer invaluable information and is worthy of saving/bookmarking to your favorites for future reference and educational purposes. Just type in the last 7 digits of your VIN...or select the correct selections for the BMW want to find info about....but using your VIN will make the info that is pulled up specific to your BMW:

So I am pretty much done.
Wrapped the side markers and chrome trim myself. I also tinted the light on the side markers yellow. Had the rims and calipers painted by OneEighty in Brooklyn NY What do you guys think? |
