How do you reply when someone asks you what you drive?

There were few guys who typically did not understand my straight forward answer.. F80 M3.. So I had to explain them its a BMW twin-turbocharged sedan !

Can't remember the last time someone asked me that. Fewer people are into cars these days and fewer still are into enthusiast models. On a related note, BMW is definitely not the aspirational brand it was 15 years ago.

What makes me laugh is when people ask "2 doors?", I always answer sedan or 4 doors. And the better part is someone that tells me he likes the M3 better than the M4!

The only time I ever get asked about my cars is when I am at either a social event or engaged in a conversation with other car enthusiasts.

Are all of you being asked what you drive in normal day to day conversations? If so, that is incredibly weird.

I pulled into the pub for a bottle of rum this afternoon. The bloke in front of me asked what BMW my car was. I said "a 135". He said "it looks like it goes like a scalded cat". I said "yeah, it does" LOL

I work in a medical/technical field....Most would have no clue. Even more of them would think I'm nuts that I spend my weekend working in my shop/garage on cars or detailing as my de-stress and grew up drag and street racing before family/kids.

I usually say I have a M5, or a BMW M5. The no-clue'ers at least are aware of the BMW name, and the car people pick up on the "M5" part and it sparks a great conversation.
