Lockdown or not?

Who is in complete lockdown and who can still enjoy their beasts?

Here in Melbourne, Australia some activity still allowed, but you feel almost criminal when freeway signs say “If you can stay home you must stay home!” But couldn’t resist the temptation, knowing no other human contact during a drive... The monster got a workout today, some spirited driving in Yarra Valley... Strictly within speed limits 😂 but can’t use more than 2nd gear... Cleaning planned for tomorrow to wash all the dirt away, maybe a new picture after that. May even do a quick wax as I bought an LED head lamp today...

I usually spend my time between Lithuania and UK. At this particular time I had planned to be in UK but my return flight was cancelled and I ran the risk of being marooned there with my family here in LT. So, for the forseeable future I'm in a country in almost total lockdown from the outside World although travel within the country is still permitted - for now. The M6 is locked in a garage in the UK and at this moment I have absolutely no idea when I'll see it or drive it again. When a car is declared off the road in UK the vehicle road tax can be cancelled so at least I save a few ££££ but it hardly makes up for the disappointment of not getting to use it.

I have a noisy car in each place so at least I can still drive the other one just for the fun of driving or maybe a visit to the supermarket. At the risk of being banned for life on a BMW forum this is the other car. It's a factory built Brabus B63S.

Here in the US, the lockdown is a city enforced rule. Each jurisdiction has varying enforcement. That said my city just announced they will have police officers enforce the rule this weekend. How? I'm not sure. We're still allowed to be outside for "essentials" like grocery shopping, so one can easily lie and say you are on the way.

That said, in the last 2 weeks of lockdown I have washed the M6 and plan on washing my X5 soon after a rain storm. One day, I did an extended drive on the M6 while picking up lunch. I also did a thermostat test requiring a 1 hr drive of the X5.

I've also finally gotten around to wall mounting my pressure wash station like this:

I'm in Northern California. And yesterday, went on a drive to inspect if State Parks are actually closed or not.. I can confirm, they are.

And then I took this beast out to re-inspect the road conditions.. Official business only.

I love your wall mounted pressure washer, that's a great idea! I need to do that this summer.

Can't help but think that not doing a lockdown at all and just letting some weak people die might have been better for everyone. Natural selection etc.

But for the moment as I work in IT I'm super busy. I'm optimistic that by the middle of next week I'll be able to go down from 12 hour to 8 hour days and start to get some things done around my house. We had about 10 guys work all Saturday last week as well, plenty of extra income for all of us.

I was supposed to go and bid on this house but the auction isn't happening now. Apparently the vendor is keen on offers now but as the banks are focusing on people that can't pay their mortgages and I'm unsure if most (some, all, none?) of my tenants will all be able to pay their rent I'm not sure if it is time to go and buy a new house. The owner wants the cash to keep their business afloat apparently and I'm optimistic I'll be able to pick up a good deal, will see.

Everything in NYC is shutdown. However I've never been able to enjoy my car like the way I am now.

I've been taking some great rides. The roads are empty. I'm able to enjoy the highways to myslef. Before the lockdown even 4am on any day of the week there is traffic in the way.

Driving is about the only thing we have rn. The weather isn't playing nice tho.

Really? The elderly are the same people that brought you up or your parents up. Many suffered deprivation during their lives and many suffered at the hands of occupying nations yet they struggled on to provide a future for their children and grand children. After their working life the elderly surely have a reasonable expectation of a peaceful and enjoyable retirement? Many do not and suffer poor health but do you seriously suggest that we abandon them now because it's a just bit inconvenient for the younger and able bodied amongst us?

Sadly I'm hearing all too often whinging from the younger generation that it's an old peoples' disease and why should others be inconvenienced. Everyone is inconvenienced, young and old alike, for the good of society as whole and not a selective section of society. In Europe, Sweden is the only country not to enforce a lockdown and people are socialising as normal. Only time will tell if this approach results in a better outcome for the whole of society. It will be nice if it is but I somehow doubt it.

If we were talking about letting those "weak people die" being your parents, or your spouse, or your children, or ultimately you, would you still think lockdown isn't worth it?!

Thanks. That's not my setup but that's my inspiration I found online.

I'll take a photo when I'm finished. I've ran into some issues mounting. What brand pressure washer do you have? If you have a Sun Joe, then I have a part list for you.

Detailed the vehicle. Found out its either ceramic coated or has a very good previous detail. Water beads and slides right off like crazy.

Absolutely valid points, I'm being a bit extremist with Darwinism to be fair but I think every generation has their issues so it isn't necessarily fair in my mind to say that older people deserve care because of what they've done for younger generations. If this happened 100 years ago (which it did, the Spanish Flu) did we not end up with an overall stronger and healthier society?

I also realise this is about two steps away from being taken to the politics forum - there are a few big threads over there about it as well.

I finally got the pressure washer mounted. I'm still waiting for the high pressure hose extension.

This reel may end up getting replaced. I want to test to see how hard it is to coil up to pressure hoses that are linked together. I might end up installing a wall mount wheel.
