I’m looking at a B6 with low miles. Any experience and/or thoughts about the Alpina?

I had the same idea but there are so few out there, at least here in EU that I got a M6. the Alpina is more luxurious than an M but that’s about it.

I have a 2016 Alpina that I bought used with low miles. Great car. I have not driven the M6, but used to have an M5. The Alpina is very luxurious, very powerful, can be very sedate when driving around town, but when you put your foot into it- the torque is intoxicating. I live in a place where we get some snow, and the AWD comes in handy. The exhaust note is deep, but not overly loud. I think the exterior modifications done by Alpina are very tastefully done. I love the wheels, but they do take a little time to keep clean. There are some videos you can find on the web that compare the M6 and B6.
Hope this helps, and good luck to you in your search
What color combo are you looking at?

Frozen Brilliant White Metallic is the exterior, black interior. I know it sounds crazy, but only 1700 miles. I’ll probably hang on to my M6 comp package for a couple months just in case.

I really liked the '16 Alpina B6 when I was looking. The '17 has 600hp vs. 540hp in the 2016.

The power was awesome, the ride was smoother than a 650i and the styling was very nice. The two things that I personally didn't like about it was the turbo lag - very noticeable. I like to go fast off the line and the turbo lag sucked for that. The other thing was that instead of paddle shifters, it has buttons. I'm not a fan of those.

You can option standard bmw paddles or the Alpina buttons. I guess that is something to look for on the build sheet if anyone has a preference

huh...interesting. I was not aware Alpina cars came with their own gear shift buttons. Odd positioning, you kind of push down on it with your thumbs. It's like someone trying to find a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

The actual buttons are on the back side of the wheel, right where your fingers would find it if you held the wheel at 6:00/9:00 positions. Very ergonomic placements. Gives the wheel a clean look. Some may not like it, but it works great. What you see in the picture is not the actual shift button.

That has got to be the best and most thorough comparison of these 2 monsters. At least I coudn't find anything better and the 2 dudes (protagonists in many other head-to-head contests/videos) know what they are talking about.

I actually bought that Frozen White Metallic 2017 B6 with 1700 miles. It’s on a car carrier on its way to me in CT now.

I am very excited to own this car! I sold a 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS to buy the B6. Similar but very different cars.

I’ve already purchased a full Akrapovic titanium exhaust for the B6. Can’t wait to get that installed! Hope it’s aggressively loud! The stock B6 exhaust note is just too quiet for me.

I am also going to get a set of lowering springs for the B6. Considering H&R or AC Schnitzer. Any recommendations?

(Sorry for the large images....I don’t know how to resize them)

Congratulations well done. It is an awesome car. You want to keep the OEM drive mode or just lowering. H&R does have the H.A.S. System were you keep the drive modes. Or you go directly with V3 version. I don’t know if AC-S has it for an B6. for a M6 yes but those are different.

What is the HAS system?

I just want to install springs and hopefully retain the different suspension settings.

Got it...

I don’t believe H&R has a height adjustable suspension for the 650i XDrive (compatible for the B6).

KW has one, but I’m not sure if it will work with the B6.

Thanks guys! Yes, can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this matte white beast!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a height adjustable spring that will fit the B6?

Congrats on the purchase! When you get the mods done, i’ll Take the oem springs and mufflers if you don’t need them. (Have family in CT so should be an easy pick up)

Sure....we can talk!

Do you have an Alpina B6 or you looking to put those OEM parts on a 650xi?

I decided to go with H&R's adjust height spring. They refer to it as their VTF spring.

My only concern is the VTF specs indicate that the range of lowering in the rear for my car is from 1.0-1.6”, where the standard non-height adjustable H&R springs for the rear of my car provide a .6” drop. I really hope that the VTF springs, even set at the maximum height (least amount of drop), don’t the drop the rear too much!

That said, I don't want to have a forward rake, with the front being lower than the rear of the car. From many photos I've seen on this forum, the standard H&R spring has a tendency to create a slight forward rake. Agree?
