Extended warranty

I just bought a 2013 640i. I'm looking for recommendations of extended warranties. Are they worth it?

I'm in the same boat. I have read that Endurance is good. I asked the dealership when i was there getting a pre-purchase inspection done on my 2015 640i GC. they said they have worked with them. some claims go smooth while others don't, I guess that is the chance we take buying 3rd party warranties.

Just bought a 13 640i in December and bought a warranty thru Concord auto protect. My dsc module went out 3 weeks ago and they paid $2200 of the $2500 bill. So yeah.. worth it gets my vote. Pm me and I'll give you my name if i refer you, i think we both get some bonus on the coverage.

Not worth it to me on anything ever. You will get opinions from both sides (try a search), and it certainly buys peace of mind if that is valuable to you, but just don't fall for the "on a car this complex and with repairs so expensive it will absolutely pay for itself" line. Far more often than not it will not pay for itself, which is why they are happy to sell you a policy.

Amen to that Opie!

I paid about $38k for cpo, with 3 months left of factory warranty, when I could have gone 32ish without (slight mileage difference), but I was searching and considering buying nationwide, sight unseen, and just getting it trucked to me. So in my case paying extra for a smidge of factory warranty to get it as close to new as possible was totally worth it, and usually I’m in the camp of save now and pay as you go.

So in my case it was totally worth it, I found way more than $2k worth of issues bmw covered for me, (including a new sunroof cartridge) and have another year of CPO coverage left just in case.

I actually bought mine with out ever even test driving one! I test drove a 640i gc, a 550i, and just new that the 650 gc would be perfect!

I have a very bad experience with my old infiniti extended warranty that i purchased a while back when i first bought the vehicle. It needed some work done after about two years of owning it. Long story short... the extended warranty company denied the claim for the repairs and cancelled my coverage because according to them having an exhaust and spacers voided the warranty! So they refunded me a pro-rated amount of what i had already paid.

Which is why im still on the fence about getting one.

What failed that caused them to refuse to cover your repairs. There is a common tactic with after market insurance companies to refuse the repairs and cancel you and refund the pro rated fee. Nice way to make money... You are not the first and will not be the last

The rear calipers seized and needed new pads and rotors bc of that. The steering rack was slightly leaking.

None of these aftermarket parts would cause them to fail.

My exhaust had nothing to do with brakes. And if anything the wheel bearing may have went because of the spacers way before causing anything else to fail.

Certified Pre-Owned. It's a lesser warranty offered by BMW on certain used cars that are in good shape. You don't usually "buy" it per se, but a CPO car will usually have a higher price than an identical car that is not CPO.

And I should add that up until 2014 CPO was good for 2 years after the factory warranty expired, Now it is one year.

So the "are they worth it" part of your question is loaded. If you do a search on here, you'll find different responses all over the map with people's opinions, some even going as far as formulas explaining why it is worth it or not. Ultimately since these are $100k cars that are now as cheap as $25k on the used market, the income levels on here vary greatly, thus different opinions on warranties. The guy who spend $100k on his 650 can probably afford the potential $10k repair bill so he can play the odds and go without warranty. The rest of us may want to get the warranty.

As far as warranty options, BMW will not warranty your 2013 due to its age. Most 3rd party warranties you can get from the dealer will likely be around $5-7k depending on mileage of your car. Another option is to shop insurance companies such as Mercury and look into their Mechanical Breakdown Insurance. I got mine for $3200 for 2 years/24k on my 650 with 64k miles

For me, it was worth it. I paid ~$3,800 for an extended warranty on a 2012 640i and had all done under warranty:

3 Oil filter housing gaskets replaced
1 valve cover gasket replaced
1 oil pan gasket replaced
1 water pump replaced
1 belts and pulleys replaced due to OFHG leak

By far, the oil pan gasket was the most expensive. I believe it was close to $2,200 (mostly labor).

Definitely worth it

I have a 2014 650 ix GC with 37K miles. I went with Endurance based off of online reviews and my SA at my local BMW dealership had used them and had good experience with them. With these cars being over $100K brand new repairs are extremely expensive. Unless you have money to burn I highly recommend getting one!!

I got the extended warranty through BMW in Annapolis, MD. This was back in 2016, so I’m sure pricing has changed but again, it was worth it, in my case.

Also, I got the warranty right before my factory warranty ended; you’re usually able to get a better price before the factory warranty has expired.

grest coverage spent about 10k in repairs already...paid for itself 2xs over.

I paid $4000 for 3yr/30K mi extended about 20 mo ago. So far not used it. And these days the car sits on a charger (it was driven 3K mi last 12 mo) so yeh, it will probably be a big waste of $$. But oh well. ours is a 2013 650x convertible, so I was expecting some high dollar repairs
