The Jaguar XF Sportbrake Is a High Five to America
Finally, a beautiful Jaguar wagon is coming to the US market. It's not like it'll face a whole lot of competition

http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...ve-to-america/

"When it comes to wagons, the US market is a hostile desert with very little vegetation. BMW leaves its pretty 5-Series Touring at home, offering American wagon fans nothing but a 3-series wagon and the abomination that is the new 6-Series Gran Turismo."

"US buyers get the 380-hp supercharged V6 and all-wheel drive standard, which, paired with the Sportbrake's 4045-lb claimed curb weight, adds up to a claimed 0-60 time of just 5.3 seconds."

Two very important differences. The 5 wagon is good looking. And is not offered in the United States. BMW wants us to buy this abomination.

No thanks.

Yes and watch it be screwed to the floor similar to what the E-Klasse is.
They look at the wagon, leave with the SUV.

A lot of words in the press announcement can be summarized as follows: we hope you don't notice it's even uglier than before

They hit such a home run with the glorious 6 gran coupe and the convertible and coupe. Both the exterior and interior of the existing 6 is spectacular, the inside blows away anything else BMW has
And they replace them with this abomination

Please find those designers of the 6 GC unchain them and let them make beautiful cars again

Salty much? Don't worry nothing will be screwed to the floor worse than this so-called 6 series GranTurd.

They look at this thing and leave the showroom with acute nausea.

Have these people ever heard of a focus group? I think nearly every single person in this thread except for one guy who owns a 5 GT thinks this thing is just about the worst looking car they could have come up with. Now I know we're all jaded slightly to what we drive as that's why we bought it but some things are just plain old ugly. I mean, I ordered a 4 GC because I love pretty much everything about it. BUT I also really like several other similar cars, I just found the 4 GC checked more boxes. That said, I wouldn't drive the 6 GT if they gave it to me. Now, a 6 GC is one of the slickest cars they've produced.

I just don't get it. These people at corporate have lost their minds.

I guess I'll enjoy my new 4 for as long as it lasts as it will probably be my last BMW if the signs of the new things coming down the pipe are what the future is going to hold. If they would purely design a 3 GC and a 5 GC and then maybe even a 7 GC you'd have a hard time keeping up with demand. There really is no reason for the 4 GC other than the 3 GT and 5 GT look like XXXX.

The US remains the main focus of automotive manufacturers. To say you are satisfied with being down there is nothing short of reckless.

Even you have to admit that the GT could have been a better looking car while meeting all its segment and customer profile targets.

Now calling it a 6 is another thing all together. Why do you stray from your now established profile of even numbers for sportier cars and kill and established nameplete pedigree when this clearly is aimed more at a practical minded customer?

I know I won't get a reply for my comments but I had to put them out there.

After looking at the 8 concept and then seeing how BMW decided to make a 6GT (and have the audacity in its bloviating press release to compare it to sleek sports cars) I decided I have had enough.

I've gone back to the dark side. I've ordered a 2018 Mercedes GT with the Masterati-like grille. I built what I wanted and put my order in. 4-5 months. I can wait.

Goodbye BMW.

The US remains in focus but one of the issues the US market is facing along with preemptive motions already put in place is the general customer demographic changing within every segment to the SUV/Crossover. And this is not just limited to BMW.
The newest model there is the X1. Every other X model is due to be phased out within the year.
The new X3 will certainly reignite interest as will the X2 and the X7 but there is also a new X5 due next year.
However in other markets we also see this trend in which traditional segments are being slowly eroded by SUVs.

The 5er Gran Turismo found its niche by doing something completely extraordinary.
It tapped into a mindset where the customer was not interested in following the zeitgeist of the SUV March.
The 5er Gran Turismo is a concept designed from the inside out and it shows. Because a new type of customer found solace in how it was still a premium vehicle but took a different direction to luxury, flexibility and user ability. We have a dedicated forum here for the F07. And some people need to educate themselves on why there are people who like the car.
It's driving position was applauded especially by female customers who found that semi- command position provided the best view for them.
My wife has a GT and she loves it.
As for the twin boot lid it was necessary to make it redundant as it was something we don't intend to use. Using the full hatch was more accessible.
The new 6er Gran Turismo embodies the best of the F07 but addresses its short comings in particular it's bulkier visual elements. In particular I don't think a vehicle like the GT needs an M Sport Packet. The F07 did not need one and always looked like an appendage. The standard line always struck well the balance between sport and luxury.

The 6er GT does not replace the 6er Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe will now be an 8er. As for the reason? There is a strategy behind it. It does not make sense in the shorter term I agree.
But BMW obviously feel the time is right to reinvent an 8er to coincide with BMWs further investigation into the luxury market to bridge BMW to Rolls-Royce.
