How is the stock sound system?
Ok I'm about to purchase a M6GC. The dealer is having trouble locating one in white which is the color I want. They found one, but it does not have the Bang and Olufsen system in it. I'm very big into my music and I was wondering if the stock system will be good enough.

Honestly man, a friend of mine has an m6 without it and mine has it- and unless you're BLASTING it there's very little difference. It looks cool though when it pops up, that's for sure- but no one other than you will notice that

If you know sound, with the B/O there is a difference. Takes some tweaking to your tastes but once you get it, there is a difference. I have the HK in two other BMW, and I like the B/O better. $3500 better? Not so sure, but the lights around the speakers at night make up for it.

I have the standard HK. It is basically the same I have had in my previous vehicles (logic 7) and love it. I am somewhat of an audiophile so know the difference. $3500 is not worth it IMHO even with the lights and pop up. More to break. Besides the way I drive it, I am not critically listening to Mozart on it. Maybe Rachmaninoff. Most often AC/DC. I would not make it a deal breaker.

TBH with you, I would spend that money for Full Merino leather (and I did) instead...

You can take the $3,500 and add a quality pair of subs, amp, and custom enclosure in the trunk as neither system has enough low end sound. That is where I would put my money at least.

wasn't the Harmon Kardon standard starting in 2014 models?
I have the HK and love it. I spent the money on full merino leather instead. |

hk was good enough for me in my previous 750. Have the B&F in my m6 and like everyone else says its mostly about presentation value. As a disclaimer I listen to edm so take my opinion for what it's worth

I too, love a good audio system (our home audio system cost more than the M6GC), but the B&O is not as good as I had expected. Like some others here, my wife and I are both rockers, so your opinion may differ. Try to hear both and decide for yourself whether it is worth it. Last edited by JimM6GC; 01-18-2015 at 10:03 PM.. |

I work with sound for a living and must say that the B&O system in BMWs is in one word... Disappointing, specially for a reputable brand like B&O, but seeing as how they've lowered themselves to making gimmicky headphones as well, it kinda makes sense.

On 2013 models the code is 677. On 2014 and later 688. The difference, the 688 has the HK logos on the speaker grills. The actual content of the pkgs are virtually identical. There is an entire thread dedicated to this controversy. BMW has been working with HK since 1993. My guess, the 677 is the logic 7 (HK Trademark), 688, logic 7 tweaked with logos. In any event, its hard to justify the extra $3500 for the B&O when their are a lot of other goodies for that money.

So wait, if you don't have B and O, you automatically have HK by default, right? Reason I ask is because I have a 2014 and it doesn't have the HK words on the speakers.
