OE trim is very expensive and the install is tricky due to the fact that it's very flimsy. Best option is to vinyl wrap it gloss black. Prices vary from $160-$200 depending on where you live. Vinyl will last as long as you own the car. Do not paint the trim or use plastidip.

I first went the vinyl route and did not love the outcome. It could have been the place I went but I doubt it. I had it painted and I liked it alot more. My shop charged me around 300 Canadian to have it done and I have no regrets

Garage List
I did the wrap and am very happy. Been on over a year and still looks great.
The guy that did mine is very experienced. Could be the difference?

I painted.
Removal of the trim was easy.

On my old 335 I had the trim vinyl wrapped. After about a year or so the wrap had gotten a bit warped and I ended up installing an Oem set of shadow-line trim off a totaled m3. My 335 was parked almost strictly outside though. I just recently got my all of the chrome trim on my tesla vinyl wrapped, but that car is garaged 95% of the time. Personally, I think nothing beats the look of Oem trim. If you can find a used set I would do that instead of the wrap. Removing trim off our cars is fairly easy, just make sure to be very gentle when removing/reinstalling.

It's funny that so many people go out of their way to GET shadow line trim. Personally, I always get black BMWs, and the 550xi before my 650xi GC was the first to have the shadow line trim. I found that it made the car just more bland - similar to my old 325i back in the day - BMW would give you black trim on the "lowly" models, reserving the chrome trim for the upper end models.

When I ordered my 650xi, I special ordered a DELETE on the shadow line trim - since adding M-Sport automatically gave you it. They were happy to oblige, but it took some digging and phone calls for the dealership to figure out how to put the order in that way, and they did it for no additional cost.

When the car arrived, I received no less than 3 or 4 separate and unsolicited comments from people at the dealership that liked the look. To each his own, but I much prefer the chrome trim - especially since the other trim on the car (grille, former side-marker, etc.) is chrome. On black, it just adds nice contrast, too. I suppose if you were blacking-out the whole car, including the other trim pieces, it would make sense.

Interestingly, if you go to configure a new 8-series, they now give you the option for "Chrome Line" trim - if you PAY for it as part of the $3,350 Individual package!

Provided I like and have had both variants, I prefer the black glossy shadow line trim especially as I have owned darker colors. On my 335i back then the thin film layer on the chrome pealed off so that was not so nice. But then again on the black glossy you see every little imprint and scratch way more I noticed. Both are cool it comes down to personal taste and as mentioned above on the contrast with the other car body parts too.

One of the first thing I did: well had done lol, a FAIR shop will charge between 100-150 depending on how vinyl is wasted. Go in prior too have them order a slimmer roll of vinyl. So they don’t use the whole sheet. I waited an extra week because he told me that if he used the existing roll the price would be closer to 225 because of unused materials. With the slim roll, entire price was 100 installed.
