Road noise
hi all,
is there anyway to reduce road noise inside the car? Normally I have the music up so it isn't much of a problem but im doing a couple of long journeys in the summer with other people in the car and wandered if there's anyway to reduce it Many thanks

Hi,
When I had my stereo upgraded from the awful HK system a few months ago, I had my M6 GC fitted out with sound deadening and sound insulation. All doors, boot(trunk) and wheel wells were treated, it has made a big difference. |

Currently on Potenza's and they are smooth on the highway, barely any road noise compared to R888r and PS4s But they're not as great performance-wise. |

P Zeros currently as that's what the garage put on before I bought the car, haven't got round to figuring out which way to go with tyres when I need them

Needs checking for what?
"Road noise" might be different depending on the person but these aren't luxury cruisers.. they're supposed to make noise especially when running sport/summer tires. If you know for sure there isn't any other problem with the car then switch out the tires first and do an alignment. I switched from the r888rs to the Potenza's (because of road noise) and it's perfect now for casual driving. Had the same issue with the GTR running r888rs so I switched it back to stock PS4s. |

I will do my little trip in June and see how it goes, maybe some sound proofing needed but not keen ripping the interior apart

I've bought Ford focus mk3 estate a couple of years ago as work horse (30k miles per annum, mainly motorways).
It was ridiculously loud inside, I literally couldn't drive it. Spend about 5 days ripping whole interior out and installing Sound Deadening materials. It did make a big difference but the car still isn't quiet. The only time when it gets better is when driving outside the UK, tarmac here is awful. Though it wouldn't be a problem on 640d but... it is. Thinking of soundproofing doors on my 640d GC now. Interestingly, didn't really noticed excessive road noise when test drove 640d. I probably wouldn't buy it again just because of that |
