22” rims on 2013 650i .. tires being shredded by control arms

Not sure how to fix… wheel spacers? Different or modified control arms, shorter tires? Smaller width rims up front?

If anyone is running 22’s or knows someone that it please post specs/ info.

Thx

You only give the wheel diameter. You don't give wheel width or offset.

How could you not see that that was going to be an issue when you first installed the tires/wheels on the car? I don't think there is anything that is going to fix that issue other than smaller wheels and lower profile tires.

I would say that you probably need at 25 series profile on the tire as well as look into the offsets to get more clearance.

As you can see on the last pic (its upside down sorry) but there is space between the control arm and tire. Also, you cannot feel it when driving and it happened over about 8 months of casual driving.

Ok.. I will look into a 25 series. I'm wondering if that would be all that is needed, or if I need to add a 5mm or more wheel spacer, or even drop back to a 8.5" width rim. I can't remember what the stock fronts were, 8" or 8.5". My current front rim is a Ferrada FR2 22x9 +30mm offset.

Thank you

Yeah I tried to fit 255 in front at first but it wouldn't make it. Whoever mounted them should have immediately noticed that.
You need 245/30/22 In front. No issues.
285/25/22 in back. Lowered on H&R

Ok then your problem is either
- your offset is too high
- your wheel with is too wide
You may need spacers to fix this. U need to go to a reputable whee shop if u don't have the experience to figure out your offsets and what width spacer
My wheel measurements, no spacers:
22x9 +30
22x10.5 +38

My tires are Pirelli Nero GT

thanks.. I'm still researching this... such a PITA. Been in touch with the place I bought from, Custom Offsets and Ferrada for help. The offset is suppose to be +30, im going to try and measure it. Wheels are 22x9 unless that is WRONG too... something is not right...i'll check that too.. so ridiculous.

....much like my photos coming in upside down and sideways lol wtf

Is your control arm bent? Looks like the one in the last picture isn't touching

So, that pic shows the passenger front, which already shredded one tire completely. I just put a new tire on, same tire, and it barely clears. Doesn't make sense that it is clearing now on that side. Definitely shredding the existing tire on the driver front.

Anyway you can post a pic of your clearance of the control arm??

I'm scheduling an appt with BMW to see if there is something wrong with my front end... bushings? camber? no clue... according to all other info online, other 6-series are running 22's with no problems..

will keep this post updated when I finally get this fixed... also ordered some 12mm spacers for fun to see if that does anything.

Finally figured out why the tires were hitting my knuckle on the car... they tires are $hit. Garbage. Brand new Venom Power tires made in China. Can't even keep round. The tires are out of round by 1/2" or more... completely egg shaped. Explains everything now.. ... literally checked and looked at everything...

Here is the video that shows it:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/I62Cxveu1M0

Will have to upgrade to a better tire brand ... will try Lexani first if not then Pirelli.

Thx!

I would think that you would have felt that amount of out-of-roundness while driving especially at high speed.

And that the "groove" would have only been on the "high" part of the tire.

Wow can't believe that. Those tires shouldn't have balanced well.
Don't know how much better lexani will be. Didn't they just start to make tires

Shocking visual. Hard to believe that's all tire... although anything is possible. How about the wheels themselves?

Yes, but was happening gradually. My car sits some I only drive it a few times a week - which may have contributed to the tires becoming mishapen. Also, means it took longer for me to notice. But, when I replaced the passsenger side tire (after it had already popped from hitting the knuckle) I could really tell because I had a fresh new Venom Power tire that was basically round paired with a really out of round driver front.
