Help ID’ing Catless DPs
Much to my surprise yesterday when I went to install my new ceramic coated Project Gamma downpipes, I found the previous owner already installed a set. The make is unknown though. I understand many of them look alike, but can anyone ID these?
I am leaving them in and returning the Project Gammas. Nothing wrong with them, in fact I love how they look and wanted the heat protection, but the labor isn’t worth it to me, especially considering I won’t have original catted downpipes to keep for future resale. Oh, is there anyway to tell if the car’s been tuned? Service history suggests otherwise, but now I’m unsure. |

Often a CEL will illuminate with catless pipes and the solution to the annoyance is to use something like bootmd3 to code the dme to ignore the state. Some M cars never through a light though. Short of buying a BM3 lic or going to the dealer to have them check I; I cannot think of method w/out a programming tool.

I just finished changing the spark plugs too and saw they were Bosch and ungapped. Also the air filters are Mahle and the charcoal filter was still there. I suspect only the sound was desired so just the downpipes were added and the CEL was tuned off (or reset before sold to me). Anywho, I purchased another tune and will see if I can see what’s currently there.

You can use ISTA to check for the programming count. I don't know if stock is 0 or 1 though.

If you need help ID'ing these I'd post this pic in the M5 forum, way more action there.
