Over the last week I changed the plugs (NGK Iridium 97506), changed the oil and filter, both air filters, the cabin filter, cleaned both MAF sensors and had my local BMW dealer top up both coolant reservoirs (they also gave me a half filled jug of BMW coolant to have if I ever need to top it up again).

The car is definitely running smoother, faster, breathing a whole lot better and even the sounds are more intense and inspiring.

I guess it is true. Proper maintenance is definitely important

I guess I’m the only one having issues, I changed my plugs to the NGK and the car is running rough as hell, the plugs I took out were the Bosch ones stamped with the BMW letters

Did you happen to gap them down at all?

I followed bm3 recommendation: https://bootmod3.atlassian.net/wiki/.../pages/2558945

97506 plugs at .022-.023” gap.

Or maybe your coil packs could stand to be replaced as well?

After battling wandering misfires and hesitations on past bimmers when I diy’d the plug and coil pack replacements, I’ve decided a while ago that I’ll save myself the trouble, pay a little more, and just always do them all together.

Anyway quick thoughts:

-Pretty easy, even the front cylinder on each side was no problem, hardest thing was getting the intake boxes back in just the right position to reconnect the rubber hoses.
-Total time including putting away tools after = ~2 hours.
-The bracing bars have a 15mm bolt on one end and a 16mm bolt on the other. WTF/whatever man.
-Took advice on the plug socket from FCP Euro not wanting to release and sprayed some WD-40 inside before I started. Worked beautifully. Used 6" + 3" extensions on most, 6" + 6" front cylinders.
-MFer those long threads put years on my life awkwardly leaning over the engine bay whipping the ratchet handle 90 degrees at a time.
-The new plugs all measured about a 0.028" gap out of the box, fwiw. I didn't mess with it.
-Old plugs coming out I measured a couple at 0.032-0.034" and then said screw it, analyze later. Didn't see anything obviously bad, will measure/examine the rest later.
-Patient is a 2015 n63tu @35k miles exhibiting stumbly cold starts, slight rough idle, and intermittent missing under load. Fingers crossed.
Do you need a universal to use ? I hard plugs are angled ?

No universal is needed on the 650, just a couple of extensions.

Changed mine a couple weekends ago. Like the other poster said, the most difficult part was getting the air box tubes snaked back into place and connected. The spark plugs and coils were a breeze. I did use a swivel between the extension and spark plug socket for the farthest forward ones, but I don't think it was 100% necessary.

Yeah for the two front cylinders it would've been easier with a swivel, but with an extra extension the tight quarters were mitigated.

For stage 1 I wouldn't gap it down that far. I am at 0.025 on BMS map 2 with E30 and I have no issues.

This is surprising as everything I have read, including recommendations from Burger, says that they are two steps colder than stock. I wonder if anyone will chime in that is running them on a stock motor, but I wouldn't do it.
The NGK 97506's are 1 or 2 step cooler for certain engines but for the N63TU... they are a direct replacement. Hope this helps...

Not according to their temperature chart. The 95770 (range 7) is the direct replacement and has a much wider heat range than the Bosch. The 97506 (range 8) is 1 step colder according to their chart.

Not if you use the correct charts.

Just and FYI for those looking for NGK 95770's. I believe NGK 97968's are the new replacement plugs for 95770's.
