Personally I think blow off valves are for corsas, imprezas etc. and would be heard in the local McDonalds car park. Hardly what you'd expect on what was a high priced luxury BMW (diesel)

basically, you're on your own here. The 6 series isn't exactly a "tuner" car to the extent of what you're trying to do. You may have better luck posting even on the X5, 3 series and 5 series part of bimmerpost as the 40d (35d in the US and Canada) motor is used in those applications as well and there might be someone who's done something like this.
I use to own a tuner car (Evo 8), and knowing enough about forced induction cars, pretty much any BOV should work. The only issue you'll have is regarding custom hoses need to make it all connect as BOVs are not all the same physical sizes. Finally, one thing to consider is that BMW may be using a electronically controlled BOV (instead of a mechanical one that works based on valves/vacuum pressure). If that's the case, an aftermarket one will require you to code/tune your car so the ECU will need to be able to override and control the BOV function of the car. It's important to understand whether you have an electronically controlled one or not, because a bad BOV operation will destroy your turbo. I joked with you regarding "VTA" to see if you at least understood functions of a BOV, but seeing you didn't understand that it meant "vent to atmosphere" probably indicates you should not be doing this yourself and asking a tuner who knows how to put the whole kit together for you. Good luck.

I joked with you regarding "VTA", ahh i remember thuis term from my skyline, supra and GTR days
if you cant fit a BOV anywhere (TBH you will if you really want to, just modify / plastic weld a pipe to the inlet and Y pipe a Vacuum from inlet somewhere) you could blank plate your original BOV if all you are after is the chatter type sound, its not great for the turbo as the chatter is the turbo cutting the recirc air at high speed, im not 100% but i would suspect these turbos are steel shaft and fans so it will hold for a fair time. Throw a project thread up interested to see what you do, are you getting it mapped etc.... ? simple map without downpipes got me 383BHP/735NM so with some effort you could see 420 with huge torque

Thank you for your input.. I think I I'm going to steer clear of the BOV, however I did upgrade the disks to vented and grooved, along with alloys, Grills, rear exhaust pipes "twin each side" and cut out the back box with rear diffuser etc if you want to see pics let me know I'll post them on here |

I know this is old but I wanted to put my .02.
If he is running high boost, he may need a aftermarket blow off valve. Otherwise he could damage is turbo. Also I don't he can use a VTA blow off without a stand alone or some sort of custom tune. He would need a recirculating blow off valve. Btw, what mods did you end up doing? It has been a year and half. |
