OTS map are best balance IMO

I believe so too and for the V8 I think Stage1 gives plenty of power to begin with. On my F32 the OTS map (Stage 2 in that case) has not caused me any issues. In both cases I think the OTS maps are pretty proven considering the people at PTF and/or whoever may write them have plenty of experience.

I don't have a V8 personally but had N55 in my X4 M40i since Beta days Nov 16' till June 18' without a single hiccup.
Personal friend running E30 OTS (S55) for a full year on stock hardware not a single hiccup with 30k+ miles on the tune.
So far 6k miles in my new S55

I wish I found a N63TU a few months ago as that was my first choice of car I wanted to get.

Well very respectable choices! I see from your signature you are running very ambitious stuff thus congrats on that.

As for the PLUGS I will drive OEM a little longer as mentioned but I have already checked based on what @Cmb6s stated in his post further up. The choice will be between:

1) NGK 97506 SILZKBR8D8S LASER IRIDIUM

These are apparently one heat range colder than the standard Bosch plugs found on the 650i. The NGK listed as part number 12120039664 are actually standard on the ALPINA B6 model.

2) ORIGINAL BOSCH ZMR5TPP330 from M models car (M2-M6)

The Bosch ones mounted on several M cars are supposedly 2 heat ranges colder. Still I love NGK and I find it hard after the positive experience on the F32 to go back to Bosch.

Thanks F06WINS. Those are exactly the two plugs that I was referring to. There was an NGK article stating that if you add about 75-100hp over stock, it’s probably worthwhile to go 1 step colder. Thus, my inclination towards the NGKs. If you’re up in the high 500 range (like the M6), then it might be worthwhile to consider those Bosch plugs. Essentially for a stage 1 OTS bootmod3 tune (which is what I’m doing), I think either the stock plus or the NGKs will be fine. I ordered some NGKs just because I bought my car used and figured I’d like to put new plugs in anyway.

Just as an FYI, I decided to flash my car today anyway and everything went smoothly. The power is definitely noticeable, though I haven’t had much of an opportunity to test it. It does seem like the engine is moving a little more on the mounts after the flash. Don’t know if that’s a result of just having increased power or something else, but it’s a pretty minor variation... just something I noticed.

I still hope to dyno next week, but will probably try to do the OTS flash first and then go back to stock for another run to have the comparison. Wanted to make sure I could flash it so that I could maximize my hour on the Dyno.

Thanks a lot for sharing too. I'm curious to hear your results. Same as i mentioned above I have not been able to test the BM3 that much either but the tune is noticeable and whether it's 80, 90 or 100 HP gain, it is certainly a great tune for a Stage 1. I had a chance to speak to one of the people yesterday at PTF and they advising the following:

"If you'll be running less than 25psi of boost we suggest a 0.020" gap, or 0.018" if planning to go higher. In most cases though we just go with the 0.018" gap and call it a day. We don't suggest using the S55 OEM plugs when tuning your motors and the NGK SILZKBR8D8S (97506) have been found to be far better."

Not only based on their feedback, but as I was saying my experience with NGK and tuned engines (back since the N54, N55 days) has been fantastic. Thus I will opt for the NGK ones mentioned above.

However the power increase is noticeable right away and there is way less lag down under than before. The difference is felt immediately and in comfort mode already - seems like a light sport mode as compared to before.
So far so good and so far so happy but will need to drive and test it over an extensive period of time.
So did you do the burble tune also?

I had misfires when I flashed stage 1 in gears 5+. I changed to the recommended NGKs (and ignition coils) and have been problem free ever since.

I have not had any misfires with the OEM plugs thus far. When it warms up a little, I’ll probably replace with the NGKs regardless... just because I think it’s better to run plugs than are too cold vs too hot.

Also, as a data point for others, I did finally manage to get the car on a dyno. Unfortunately, it took so long to get the car sorted out and put it into “roller mode” that I didn’t get a chance to do a baseline run.

In the end, I was extremely pleased with the results. The power band looked nice and level over a wide range of rpms. The fuel/air ratio looked good throughout and the dyno operator told me that it looked perfect at the high end of the rev range (around 11.7 if I remember correctly). The peak power number was 487 rwhp and all three runs were extremely consistent. Literally within about 2 hp of each other. I was pretty surprised with the number, but it was on a Dyno Jet and I don’t have a baseline for comparison, so it’s not really that meaningful. Still... it had me grinning from ear to ear when I walked out.

The other thing that had me grinning was listening to the M sport exhaust with valves fully open at full chat. I still think it’s pretty quiet and subdued 98% of the time, but when you get on it in the upper rpm range, man does it sound good.

Your car is 2013? Then probably had plugs as they widen with time.

I like to buy new because it allows me to use it in my current vehicle and transfer to my next supporting one and/or sell it.
Sorry to bring an old thread back but is this still true?

If I purchase a used BM3 license from someone who say had it on a single DME car, I will have to pay an upgrade fee to use it on my N63TU?

Also, say when a license is transferred, does the new user get to choose any 1 OTS Map? Or whichever free map was on the license before gets transferred? I know that purchased maps or bundles do NOT get transferred.

Different licenses are more. Yes you pay more if the license was a cheaper one. The n63tu license is the most expensive so unless you get another n63tu license transfer you will most likely have to upgrade.

Yes I saw that N63 is more expensive. I almost bought a license that came from a N55 so that's why I need a definite answer if there will be an additional fee, if so I'd rather just purchase it new.
