Journey to Ownership

I have recently become the proud owner of a BMW 6 Series Coupe and wanted to write my journey to ownership.

When I turned 21 my dad gave me his BMW E36 (which had the whole M3 body kit) which I cherished until the unfortunate day I was involved in an accident and the vehicle was written off. Since this time I upgraded to an E46 and the E92. Now after having a baby we have switched to a Qashqai as a coupe (no matter how good it was) did not cut it as I needed four doors.

In the meantime my dad upgraded to a 5 Series and in December 2017 purchased his dream car;

White 2015 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe M Sport.

After only driving the car three times my dad was diagnosed with liver cancer and tragically died a month later. Due to this being my dads car my mum handed it down to me as she knew I would look after it just like him.

I'm due to collect the car on Monday (my birthday) from my dads house as a final present from my father on my 32nd birthday.

While he owned the car he always wanted to install the carbon spoiler and black M Sport kidney grills however didn't have the chance to do so. Due to this I have the car booked in at BMW on Tuesday for the work to be completed.

I am proud to say I am a 6 Series owners, not only because it's an amazing machine but also because this car is an extension my my fathers memory.

Thank you for sharing such a moving story. Wish you lots of strength of course (which I am sure you have as I read you) and all the best in every respect and of course the maximum enjoyment with your new and special ride.

Thanks so much for the kind words and really glad to be a part of the community.

Black kidney grills have been fitted however before the spoiler was fitted they found a defect so will be at the dealership for a few more days while a new one is sent.

Once all done I'll proudly post some pictures.

I can relate, part of the mods I did to this car I consider a final gift from my mother when she passed away earlier this year. I picked up my car Feb 15th and she went home on the 22nd... while we know this is a material thing and can never replace what we have lost... it helps me and serves as a reminder of the good times that she and I shared

I was hoping to do a few things but wanted some advice beforehand. The black grills have been fitted and the carbon spoiler is due to be on soon.

I was thinking about getting the 640d in black lettering and seeing if anywhere would wrap the side chrome indicator plates and chrome door handle strips black too.

Anyone done this? Advice? Or any recommendations of where to get it done? I live in Lincolnshire, UK

give it a shot yourself, its not to bad to do, i am usually rubbish at this stuff but it came out well

Handles

Rear Reflectors

Sidemarkers

Side markers were the wors as the points are quite sharp at the end, but once i figured out how to apply the heat properly it was pretty easy

do the rear light clusters have reflectors also? if not I don't think covering the rear reflectors is a good idea, stringent MOT garage will fail the car.
