depending on how confident you are with IT i would go the way i went
free VM with esys (remove spaces from the web address) http://www.b m w coding.online/software-downloads/esys/ Enet cable https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-ENET-...ing-F-series-2 VMWare https://www.vmware.com/uk/products/w...valuation.html VMware Key https://www.scribd.com/document/3631...Serial-Key-txt the mobile apps are nice an user friendly but can be limiting. Option 1 on your list looks good but not seen it before

thx, I'm 'reasonably ok' with IT but that's probably over the top
I had NCS Expert and the whole package deployed on VM Ware the last time I had a BMW - an X5. reluctant to get that technical this time, guess with no real hands-on tech exposure getting a bit rusty hence the suggested few simpler options .. bcables looks cool, so does Carley can anyone suggest any pros and cons between Carley and BimmerCode at all? j |

Cheers for the links Mark. I was going to have a crack at esys but the vmWare keys are invalid. @jay.nana777 I have Carly and it's very easy to code using the app for changing config on lights, warnings, idrive etc. |

I use Bimmercode on mine and it works pretty well for majority of what I wanted... Keep in mind that you have to have a stable connection, if for whatever reason your phone/device loses wifi or bluetooth connection you're in for some problems...
Buddy of mine tried to use it with his 330i and the wifi dropped from the Vgate because his phone wasn't in airplane mode and his iDrive turned black. Had to go to the dealer and get them to reset the module. |

I now have BimmerCode running, having paid the subs, etc. checked with dongle in the car, all good.
for a start, tried to code the the auto start-stop to stay off by default, which didn't work, which now worries me. here are few key things I'd like to get done to start with, can anyone help with these pls, where to find them, etc: 1. Enable brake auto-hold on by default 2. Automatic hand-brake apply and release 3. Fold the mirrors when the car is locked 4. Close the windows when the lock button on remote is held down 5. Reduce seat-heating over time and eventually switch-off |

Please find attached (PDFs) a couple of "cheatsheets". They are based on F10 model but as many will know many of these coding functions/options are shared with the 6 series and thus should work. Please check them as some if not all options you mentioned above should be in there.
Another good source is the other forums here (F10.5post, F30BimmerPost) where you will find quite some coding "specialists" to whom you may also direct your queries. Hope this helps. |

Indeed but as we mentioned several coding systems here, including E-SYS I thought they could still be of use or reference in general and in case you or other ever decide to give it a try. Also it is useful to see what is possible since systems like Carly are limited and do not allow to modify certain parameters/functions.
E-SYS is the software I use and for which those reference cheatingsheets are useful. That works together with the ENET cable. MARKPRIOR in post nr. 2 explained that very well along with the links posted. |

Our forum colleagues at F30Bimmerpost have posted a great guide which has helped a lot of people:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=696777 I learned myself from scratch - takes some time but it's not hard. Time and patience are needed of course if you have never done it before. Don't be fooled by the date of those posts all information is there and reading the thread in general provides a solid learning base. |

I guess it depends what you code and modify.... but my experience is BMW will not check what you have configured or changed regarding parameters and configuration files. As long as you do not alter the car's ECU module software but stick to simple FDL Coding there is not much damage you can do. Its "safe" if you know what you are doing of course. If the dealership discovered something was altered and you brought the car in with engine issues, which are independant of some coding parameters one may have altered, they could still react negatively to it - if they realise it of course.
Again I have not been in that situation where a warranty has been denied because of this. I have taken my previous BMWs (FDL coded) to BMW dealers for little issues here and there and it was never noticed or mentioned. You can find a good discussion here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1243824 |
