LCI Msport Steering Wheel Cover Leather

Hi all,

i'm planning to upgrade my pre-lci steering wheel to the LCI msport steering wheel.
My question is, what kind of leather is on the cover where the M emblem sits? is it nappa or dakota?

Neither. Where the M emblem sits is just semi-hard vinyl/plastic. Basically the same as the round center piece. But none of the wheel is actually leather. It is what is called bonded leather - a small percentage of ground up leather scraps mixed with binders and other stuff. The only real true leather in a 6 is the seats. The dash, center console and door tops are all the semi-fake stuff.

I see, so it's not related to the type of leather the interior came with.

Because in some of the pictures of the LCI steering wheel I saw in forums & google, some of them looks very smooth (nappa look a like) and some of them seems a little bit grainy (like the one I posted above).

Only the steering on the M cars have leather in the middle. Msport steering wheels have regular rubber or whatever it is they use.

I don't think the M6 does. Maybe others do. The new 8 series does have a stitched middle

If you look up the 11 digit BMW part nbr for (#3 in the diagram below) for the M6 vs the regular coupe/vert/GC...you'll notice that they have different part nbrs...as well as finding out what other models share the same part (if you click on the part nbr).

You may also be able to find pics by doing a google search of the 11 digit BMW part nbr. If nothing else, you'd probably find images from sellers on ebay and other sites where you can find BMW steering wheels.

What exactly are you wanting to see? I actually have posted some on here if you search "Pears Soap" - but I can take others if I know what you are looking for.

EDIT: Your original picture above is actually fairly decent. What can't you see in that? Are you wanting a closer view of the texture of the cover? The cover on your 2013 is the exact same material.

They are all the same in an MSport 640 or 650. They are smooth, like the center armrest or dash if you have the leather option. Basically like the nappa leather. When brand new the surface is sort of satin dull. Hand grease quickly makes them kinda shiny, and cleaning never quite restores that new satin look after a few thousand miles. Again, same material as your 2013.

I'm actually curious why on some of the pictures I found in the internet, the cover pointed by the blue arrow looks very grainy

but on some pictures it looks like the cover comes with the smooth leather

@Opie55

After further research, I think you're right. All the cover came with the same material. Appreciate y'all feedback, I guess we can close this thread now

Yeah, it's just that your second picture is not all that clear. And once again, that place you have the arrow pointed is not leather on any wheel. It's a chunk of molded plastic.
