2013 or 2014

This maybe be discussed before but last year i purchased a 650XI and the title as well as all the relevant documents list it as a 2014.
However, what puzzles me is the steering wheel and the I Drive controller-the MSport steering wheel is not the current one and the I Drive ceramics are the smaller ones. Overall, I think I got a steal from someone who garaged the car and kept it immaculate-meaning stock. The build date is 3/25/13.

It was not until the 2015 model year that those changes were made.

In the USA, you can tell the "official" model year of a car (regardless of its build date) by looking at the 10th VIN digit. This has been a requirement since around 1980. It started with "A" in 1980 and progressed each model year with the next alpha character (I,O,Q,U, & Z are skipped as to not confuse them with numerical & alpha digits 1, 2, 0, & V)....then goes into numerical digits 1 - 9...then starts over again.

So if your 10th VIN digit is a D...your car is officially a 2013 model year (regardless if it was built in 2012 or 2013 or 2014)...and if your 10th VIN digit is an E...your car is officially a 2014 model year (regardless if it was built in 2013 or 2014 or 2015). SOP & EOP (start of production & end of production) dates can start early and end late...thus can be prior to or after the officially designated model year.

And as Opie55 mentioned in his reply...the steering wheel and iDrive controllers changed during production run. There were 5 different types of steering wheel used on the f12/f13/f06/B6 depending on production date and option package. There was the sport steering wheel, the pre LCI M-sport steering wheel, the LCI M-sport steering wheel, the Individual steering wheel, and the Alpina steering wheel

Ok my VIN list D but the title says 2014 as well as the window sticker-so I guess there is a conundrum.
I also have the steering wheel in the second picture, I was looking to upgrade to the third picture but my prudent side said it's a waste of money.

Check your VIN again in case you have double Ds & miscounted. The model year designation is the 10th digit from the left. I only say that because I think I have double Ds in my VIN.

My 10th is F (2015) but 11th is D, so as Qsilver says, count again.

OMG...I just reread my post above...and just realized that I wrote that I have double Ds

• WBA6B4C58DD098676

FYI/BTW...this may not apply to other markets outside the USA. The 10th VIN digit representing the official model year is a US DOT requirement.

Smaller iDrive controller means one of two things: iDrive CIC installed or NBT without touch input. The 6-series got NBT starting 03/13 so it's possible that the car you're getting parts from was the very last to have CIC installed.

I feel so stupid-its a 2014- I was looking at the 11th digit.
its ED***, hence a 2014, also it has the NBT.
BimmerTech sent me a complete analysis of my VIN- I wanted to upgrade to the NBT Evo.

I will probably wait until late summer to do that and code a few things now in the interim.

Any particular reason for wanting to go the EVO retrofit route?

Other than been covetous-no particular reason-probably because the graphics are nicer.
I probably leave it alone until the itch resurges.
