OBDII ready

I had a "driver train malfunction" about 50 miles ago. After switching off the ignition and restarting the car, it runs fine but it took a few miles to reset the O2 sensor error and a few others that popped up at the time. The one parameter that has not reset is the "fuel" parameter in the OBDII readiness" block. There are no codes listed and no permanent errors stored.
Does anyone have ideas as to what is going on or what needs to happen for that to reset so I can get it inspected? The car drives fine.

The OBD Test Protocol requires certain conditions to be met to clear any former stored codes that have been fixed.

It is 90% of the time assumed that it is mileage that clears the codes...but its not. It requires specific driving conditions for specific time intervals. A person’s “driving cycle” may not fulfill all of the required OBD II driving cycle requirements.

See the chart below for the conditions & timing required to complete an OBD II FTP (federal test protocol) driving cycle. Try to find a route that you can take that will allow you to accomplish all the things required. You can see in total it only takes approx 27-30 minutes to complete an OBD II driving cycle:

The only thing I have not done is flat out acceleration. The "boys" here in Houston are really hunting street racing. I am worried the I might get tagged for "racing" if I don't spot them ahead of time.

The only acceleration needed as one of the completion scenarios is to accelerate to 20-30 MPH and maintain steady speed for 4 minutes...then find a stretch of road where you can accelerate from 40-60 MPH & maintain a steady speed for 15 minutes. Neither of those would be considered "racing speeds" unless you're driving through a school zone.

You don't have to do all of them right in a row...you just need to perform what is required (on the top half of the chart) for the time and speed given. The 1st and last requirements (cold idling for 3 minutes & warm idling for 5 minute IN GEAR (not park)) also need to be performed.

Good luck.

Thanks Qsilver7. The regular OBDII said you had to accelerate at 3/4 throttle. That is the part i was referring to. I will try your routine and hopefully get the last "ready" requirement out of the way.

Good luck...and also remember to NOT exceed 60 MPH or 3000 RPM while doing the driving cycle.
