lack of drain in oil filter cap
The M cars do not have a drain plug on the oil filter cap. Has any one looked at whether you can interchange the oil filter caps for those with drain plugs and reduce the mess when changing the filter?
Is there a known reason why the drain plug caps are now listed as "drain plug deleted"

I've yet to see anyone compare them...and I came to basically the same conclusion in past discussion on this topic.
The ones with the drains are the early N63 engines (like 2011/2012)...BMW started dropping the drain in the caps around the 2013 model year when the N63TU started hitting the market. I believe the e70 X5M may have used a cap with a drain, too...and that may go back to the end of the 2010. Unless someone wants to spend the money and compare...the other idea I had was to stop into my local BMW dealerships parts department (when they aren't busy) and have them pull a cap for each engine N63/N63TU/S63 for the various models that use the same oil filter kit and see if the caps have the same dimensions. But then COVID came along and I just decided to "glove-up"...and deal with the mess.

nevermind, looks like you can't because of the drain plug being extended. But how about the washer? Reuseable? Or needs another one? Size is it needs to be replaced?

Yp, x-tech7. I hope all is well brother. How is your car doing?
I use a socket to loosen and tighten mine and it so much easier than the filter wrench. I use OEM filters and there is no fitment issues. I bought some extra crush washers but have gone 2 oil changes with the old washer but that was by accident. I bought mine at 3rd party vendor for a little cheaper a little over a year ago but with black friday sales coming up maybe some deals will pop up. I did speak with the Weistec folks a couple of time via phone before installing it and they were very friendly folks.

The oe kit comes with a large & small O-ring + the brass crush washer for the drain plug: The small O-ring in pic above is #3 in diagram below…if your oil filter cap has the drain plug…then you replace the small O-ring when you replace the filter.
