Corrosion on DME plug and missing oil sensor....

I have some corrosion on the the middle DME terminal and after cleaning it still can't detect the oil sensor or water pump, but it can detect the Alternator now, so some improvement....

I disconnected the water pump which had really dirty connectors (oil/degreaser had found its way in) and now I can see the Oil sensor whenever the water pump is disconnected.

The water pump still pumps water, but for some reason it is ruining comms on the DME bus......

Might be time to replace the water pump, as I can't imagine a wire issue causing this, if the connector didn't work, I'd get the same as when I unplug...... Maybe some "cross talk" in the plug if there is some corrosion/oil providing a "short", but probably more likely the pump itself??

You may be able to release the pins from the plug, then properly clean them and reinstall. Are you using a proper contact cleaner??

After cleaning apply some di-electric grease to the pins to prevent future corrosion.

Thanks for suggestions, yes, I gave it a nice clean with proper cleaner. The terminals look clean, but not in good condition, I suspect they have been corroding for a while. A mechanic degreased it a few years ago and I think that is when this gunk found its way in.

I might do a resistance test on the cable end-to-end, I’d like to replace it. But must find the code for it first.

Still suspicious about the pump itself, although it pumps water fine… Car is only 70,000 kms, but maybe I should just replace anyway….
