Getting a 650i GC: what to do first?

Hi all, new joiner to the forum as I’m in the process of selling my beloved Alfa Brera to upgrade to a 2017 650i Gran Coupe. It’s my first BMW so I wondered if there’s anything I should be doing or checking over when I first get my hands on it?

I’ve got a small list to top up all the fluids, update the iDrive software if needed and get it detailed, but is there anything else I could/should be doing?

Cheers, Matt

Haha cheers - and trust me, after 8 years of owning an Alfa I can appreciate the value of a good warranty! 😂

First thing I recommend to anyone is to check out the bimmer code app. https://bimmercode.app/ Download the app, get a compatible obd2 dongle, and code out some of the annoying bmw “features”. I have auto stop start off, seat belt chime off, iDrive warnings off, folding mirrors with comfort access, unlock doors with engine shut off to name a few.

And Congrats!

I had not heard of that, but that sounds really good, thanks! Does using it invalidate your warranty at all? Or do insurance companies consider it a mod?

Not at all. It’s a simple reprograming of settings that would have been done by BMW, in different regions. It’s all reversible too. There are several good YouTube videos out there, explaining how it works.

My recommendation: get into the owners manual and learn how to use all the gadgetry and features. There are a lot of them!

Congrats!

I too just got a 650i. I went through the dealer service history and car fax and created a good list of what was done and what needed to be done (such as the air filters).

1. Check bmw (https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html) for software update

2. Test sos button and tell them you are the new owner (and register at https://************/ybxjfh8q)

3. Bimmer code or Carly to code the car

4. Enjoy
