Resestting Vehicle Check Light on M6
Looking for help in resetting my Vehicle Check light on my 2012 M6. I think the reason it keeps failing the resetting process, is I'm not sure how to change the date so that it keeps giving me an unsuccessful reset.
Thanks! |

You use a diagnostic scan tool. All OBD scanners by law have to communicate with all vehicles. All though you will only get P codes with aftermarket tools, you will still be able to read and rest "check engine light" codes

It's not the check engine light that I'm trying to reset, as I have a nice code reader, but it's the Vehicle Check, which is listed on the iDrive screen along with Oil Change, Brake Fluid, Brakes, etc., that gives you the estimated time the next service is due. Thanks!

A code reader will not work. You'll need a more advanced diagnostic tool Some earlier models there was a button combo that would allow access thru the instrument cluster I do not think that is available on the F chassis. I may be wrong tho. |

Everything else resets, except the vehicle check, which gives me the reset unsuccessful. I think the reason is, I am unable to change the date fields, which has it trying to reset to the year 2000. I just can't figure out how to change the date fields. I think if I could do that, it would reset. The older cars allowed you to go in & change them, as does the ones with the inspection service light.

I have a Autel MaxiCOM MK808 which has many features, but nothing for the "Vehicle Check" function. I'm sure my dealership will be happy to do the check & reset the light. It can't be that tough & most likely is done without a tool. Hopefully someone can chime in with some knowledge of whats required.

If you're trying to do one of the CBS (condition based service) resets like what is performed in the 1st video link in post #5 above...make sure your doors are closed. If you are pressing the odometer reset button and bringing up and scrolling through those CBS services...and your driver's door is open...you MUST close the door to make it work.

Door was closed, but the computer won't change the date to a date in the future. I've done it on my 2011 X5 & it worked perfectly & advanced the date, but not on the 2012 M6. Hmm
