trunk Gutter?
This rubber ‘tube’ runs all the way around the deck lid. It has recently come loose on both ends. Tried to reattach with Gorilla glue and was less than successful. The rubber is rather stiff and springs right off of the glue. I have since taped it. We’ll see tomorrow. I considered replacing the whole thing - which I think is unnecessary - and also had some difficulty locating the part - so a little adhesive advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

same with me! I remember asking BMW about it and they quoted me over $250 plus fitting to replace it.... hmmm I may look silly but I thought at that price I've an idea. In Australia we have a product called maxibond by Selleys. I cleaned the old adhesive off the seal and boot surround and applied maxibond and taped it to hold it till the adhesive dried about an hour or so. Has held perfectly for the last 6 months no problems. job done!

It is not just rubber. If you look close at the end you will see the rubber has a rectangular channel in which fits the typical two sided trim tape that has thin rubber layer in it. If you want it to hold forever pick off the Gorilla glue, go online and buy some HG Power Glue, use just the liquid part, cover everything beneath good, just weep a bit of glue from the tip along the loose part, press on and hold for just a few seconds. It will still be stuck there when future archeologists find your car.

Frupal, BTW if the one side of the tape is stuck to your trunk lid paint, you will need to remove that with Goo Gone or similar first before gluing. |

I just used some generic double sided tape from an autofactors and it's been fine in the UK extremes of sunny vs utter shit weather for 2 years of so now.

I have used this both in my 640d and in the M6
Strong enough to hold the gutter steady, but soft like a silicone (you are able to remove it by simply rubbing your fingers over) and doesn't screw your car paint. Holding fine for years as now. Have tried with double sided tape but with heat, water and dirt after some months it will come loose again or it will let pass water underneath the gutter, which is not good because it's meant to collect the water and drain in the hole down. P.s. keep the inside of the gutter clean, even the one above (the gutter that meets the trunk with the rear windshield) They will drain water much faster.
