Proper Downpipe Sounds

Just thought I would upload some sound clips of Fabworx downpipes I have on my F13 M6. Not getting paid or trying to promote them. Thought it would be good video just for understanding the sound of Downpipes for those considering it. Enjoy

Haha, I saw your dyno vid but didn't see the exhaust vids. Not trying to copy just trying to provide some education video on here. Glad your doing the same. I've been on other manufacturer forums doing it for years, but this is my first BMW so haven't really searched all the threads in here yet, but its always hard finding education videos on forums so over the years just tried to be a good Samaritan.

yeah, I never got to hear it from the outside till I did the dyno video and then the flyby video. I was impressed. I'm still thinking of straight piping though.

For someone who just wants an aggressive sound and to save money on a $6k exhaust system, do down pipes and be done with it!

You can do OEM gutted pipes and a used exhaust, or an exhaust delete and be way under $6k at around $2500 easy for an insane sounding M5/M6.

If you do gutted OEM pipes, will you still get a CEL without a tune?

My friend has fabworks downpipes on his M5 and he says he has wastegate rattle he said he regrets not getting AMS downpipes , also it seems if you want that deep loud roar like Eisenmann race or Meistershaft GTC you should go with the full exhaust , the midpipes and downpipes are 90mm 3.5” pipe vs 80mm pipe 3”stock pipe , I’m looking for a used set myself , 7-8k is nuts for an exhaust , your car sounds good otherwise, I like the mild burbles like you have not the ak47 tune , I might do the same with just downpipes for now.

From all the researching I've been doing the rattle doesn't come form any specific type of downpipe. You can't re use the gaskets.

Nice vid. I ordered meisterschaft gtc and will have keep my downpipes stock for now. I'm interested in the light burble.

You can re use them but it is not recommended. I changed my gaskets and rings when I swapped out the OEM DP's and never had a rattle or any other noise issue.

Yeah , I really think the extra size in the DPs and midpipes is what really changes the sound , I’m going this route full exhaust 3.5” all the way back, and keep my stockers on the side fully intact , I want it loud and I was leaning towards Eisenmann Race , but I’m thinking about Meistershaft now because of the valves, There is always times were you don’t need or want it screaming

Are you doing full exhaust or axle back?

Thanks again for sharing, if you had to guess how many percent louder did the downpipes make over stock ? It’s so hard to really appreciate the actual sound over a video Thanks

maybe 30% louder and I am plenty happy with it. It does sound less muffled and is more crisp. Then mild burble tuned helped the crispness of it. I am passed my loud car day because the louder you are the more likely your the one getting pulled over. The group of guys I cruise with all want their cars as loud as can be so I don't mind cruising with them because I'm the more stealth one not getting pulled over, which is great. It's loud when I want it to be but not obnoxiously loud.
