solid feedback needed M6 conv vs 650iX conv
Good afternoon guys
I am new here so apologies if this topic has been beaten up prior, I searched and nothing came up. Pros or cons here guys, daily drivability vs cool factor? Will not be the daily driver but will see the occasional road trip and use for 3 or 4 days out of the week. Diving in CenTex so no "planned" inclement weather usage.. Looking for fun factor vs practicality? The $$$ value is more in alignment that I had expected. Resale in the future...? Basically between the house, golf course, FUN grocery run and the ocassional trip. Thanks for any feedback! |

I have a 2015 650ix convertible, but have never driven an M, so I cannot compare directly. I don't know how much stiffer the M suspension is, but I think it comes with 20" wheels. I think I would find the 650 annoying with 20" wheels. It came with them, but after a test drive I talked the dealer into swapping for the standard 19" from another car they had. It was just too harsh. Neither car is very practical in any real sense. That's part of the attraction. As for cool factor, I think any 6 series convert is rare enough to be cool to most anybody. Those who would appreciate the extra cool of an M is a much smaller group. I personally did not consider an M for much the same reason I never considered an AMG - the aesthetic things they do to make it sportier are not traits I like, and the extra power is unusable 99.99999% of the time. I laugh sometimes when I put the power gauges up in the display and realize that most of the time my commute and other errands seldom exceed 100 hp. Buy hey, I have 345 more just in case.

I found some additional threads here that are pretty informative. I originally was just looking for a 650iX and came across some M6s that are priced pretty competitively and same low if not lower mileage.
I just have to figure out how drivable I want the car to really be and consider the existing warranties remaining on the cars. This whole itch got scratched driving my girlfriends 640iX, and I typically live in the land of "if some is good, more is better", and I am wanting a convertible back in the stable. |

Hopefully this is a simple question. Do you need all wheel drive? If you do then absolutely get the 650. If you just need red, absolutely go the m6, especially if it is approximately the same price. Also I know for a while you could get a stick shift in the m6 whereas in the 650 you cannot. In my case I absolutely needed all wheel drive so the 650 was my only option. I have now converted the looks of my car, with the obvious impossible exception of the front fenders, to look like an M6 as I absolutely love the looks of the m6. Best of luck and let us know what you end up going with!

Hmmm pros and cons.
Cons: Do you need a 6 series? No you don’t. Get a station wagon or a Prius. Pros: Do you want to have fun and enjoy driving the ultimate driving machine? Yes you do need a 6 series. And to top it you need the M6. You can use the M6 as daily driver. oK, he need a bit more gasoline but every time you drive it it brings you a smile in your face. As Opie55 said you’re not using the hp but it is nice to know you have it if you need it. The M is the most upper part of the shelf. Enjoy life... I am doing it. Just my 2 cents |

I can't speak to the M6 vert, but I drove the M6GC and the 650iGC back to back. Acceleration was better with the M6 of course, but ride was more harsh also. In the end went 650i, better ride, still gets the looks and half the cost to insure and to add the warranty. In my mind an M6 kind of negates the grand touring aspects of these cars. If I wanted a track oriented car, I'd go M3/4, but for a fast cruiser, I want comfort too.

I live in a cold country with harsh and long winter so for me XDrive was a must from the start.
I have had the 650 for just a couple of months but so far I love it. Performance (STOCK) is plenty and ride quality is amazing - for me at least and pretty much in all modes. I am sure M6 will give a much more exciting feeling when pushing those speeds and generally speaking, but then again considering all factors othes have mentioned the 650i sounds like a great deal all round. Just my 2 cents. |

I daily my m6 and love it. I chose the m6 bert over a 650 since it has way more power than i thought i needed. Well that was a lie and went full turbo back exhaust for some great noise and added power. Throw a vorsteiner aero kit on it and everyone doesnt know what your driving. Everyone asks and stares. From a reliability sense as long as you change the oil and spark plugs and coils your set. It fixes a lot of n63 engine problems and is easy to work on in my opinion. Its also a great grand tour car with its suspension adaptability.
Get the m6 and dont look back. |

Not a vert, but looking back I would have sprung the extra $ for an M6 instead of my 650i coupe.
I love the car but just for a "why not" perspective. I came from an Infiniti G37S coupe. |

Having driven and experienced both cars, I would say it depends if you need xDrive or not. If you don't need xDrive and the conditions are fairly good where you're from, go for the M6. If the conditions aren't ideal and you plan to daily it, the 650 would be the best choice.
Another thing you also want to consider is the ride comfort, and the fuel economy(if that matters to you). |
