Best tracker device
Im looking for the best tracker for my M6. My local dealer is recommending Trackstar cat6 etc https://www.halliwelljones.co.uk/bmw/trackstar but i see that this doesn’t include VHF meaning the car cant be located if in a car park or container (ie only GPS etc). I see TRACKER LOCATE offers the VHF version although recommended by Mercedes etc see https://www.trackerfit.co.uk/tracker-locate.html
Advice anyone? |

I don’t believe that there is any vehicle location device that can locate a vehicle inside a shipping container. GPS trackers all use satellite transmission to track the vehicles. If the sky is cloudy they have tracking difficulties. Same holds true for containers. The entirely steel enclosure makes it difficult for satellite to see through. There may be a way to combine tracking devices to possibly give you a desired outcome. But, I’m no expert. I have both LoJack and Viper alarm systems installed into my vehicles. :-)

It is worth checking first whether your car already has a tracker fitted. A lot of high end BMW in UK have Trackstar fitted from new even though it may not have a current contract.
If you call Trackstar they will tell you. |

It’s monitored by Teletrac Navman It’s the same unit as the BMW recommended tracker but a bit cheaper. But if you don’t want your wife/partner to know where you are a cheapie from Halfords might do hahaha |

Good advice but looks like mine hasn’t got one. I also struggled to find a UK contact no to speak to TRACKSTAR?

I was in the same position as you a few years ago and didn't know if my M6 had come with the tracker. I managed to contact Trackstar and got it reactivated. The number I have for them is 0345 604 5433 (https://secure.eurowatchcentral.com/bmwts/) So far I have not had any issues with performance of the tracker however it's not often I take the car to a multistory carpark. Hope this helps.
