Lexus IS is the 2nd fastest selling car in the US in terms of time spent on the lot

Maybe Lexus will be the company to save the sports sedan

At least their IS isn't getting bloated like alot of the more recent BMW models lol!

Impressive. Lexus clientele do stay loyal to the brand and it shows. The RX being the fastest selling SUV isn't too surprising either considering it outsells its next best competitors by double. Same with the Escalade and Telluride, not surprised as they are flying off dealer lots (some with ADM's too).

What's depressing though is besides the Corvette and the IS the list is completely SUV's.

"Fastest selling" based on days supply is a false measurement. You can't tell me there's a larger days-supply of M2 or M3 out there because I can't even get enough of them to fill the orders I already have. That's a negative days-supply.

Based on that metric, just cut your supply and immediately you go up in that rating. Nonsense.

Not sure if these numbers will stay up but it's something to monitor. Apparently not a supply issue. I see 1000+ 2021 IS300/350s for sale in cars.com

I do see the appeal of the IS same as the appeal of the IS500.

There is a big market for the IS, I see plenty of 2IS and 3IS models in southern California. But they let the 3IS sit stale so long that the model became forgotten. This refresh is really attractive but the deal killer for me is the interior. I sat in it recently while getting my 2IS serviced; the interior still has hard plastic throughout the lower half and no option for real leather.

However I'm happy to see them dropping a V8 in it and hinting at a future F model...

To be fair, so does most of the competition as well (G20 included).

WTF did they do to the IS? Looks like it mated with a Corolla. It looked way better pre-facelift.

Competitors are definitely better. The plastic is higher quality and/or soft texture. Even the 2IS had soft touch everywhere top to bottom.

I had a 2IS and a 3IS. Definitely softer touch plastics on the 2IS, but the 3IS has no worse on the lower door cards and transmission tunnel vs the G20 BMW or the B9 Audi A4/5. I don't remember the C Class but I'm pretty sure it's hard plastic down there too. Even if the competition has a very slight softness (almost a rubber coat) it's not enough to make much of a difference especially compared to previous model years. Point is that everyone is cost cutting in those areas with maybe the exception being Genesis.

Yeah, let's pretend we're about to help the environment with electrification a paper straws, but sit in double the metal at a drive-through and all the associated increases that go along with larger/heavier "car".

Though that is exactly what they are measuring to make this claim: How many days supply of this vehicle are there based on current rate of travel. How else is a Corvette #1?

I also don't see "fastest selling" meaning much if you also don't include number sold. If you are building 10k cars per month and find out they don't sell quickly, cutting it to 10k car a year and they will fly off the lot. Doesn't mean you found success. You can also get results buy giving big discounts, also doesn't mean success.

Can't find current BMW numbers but Q4 2020
Lexus IS - 4,879 cars sold
BMW 3 series - 12,722 cars sold

I agree. Also no point in comparing Q4 sales to Jan/Feb 2021 sales, in that it doesn't take into account the "new" IS.

Looks like Lexus IS sales in jan 2021 and feb 2021 were 1609 and 1905, respectively.

I saw 1000+ ISs for sale on cars.com currently. 3k+ BMW and 2500 MB C class.

So I guess when numbers are out from BMW, MB, we'll see.

This post isn't meant to prove that the IS is better than the BMW or MB. I get the sense some people are going on the defense here lol, but maybe I'm misconstruing the responses. However, BMW does make a lot of garbage cars just like Lexus and every other manufacturer.

Im just happy sports sedans are selling; I don't want to live in a world where every vehicle is an SUV.

Not defending one car over another, just looking at what was given don't think that days to sell means much by itself.

Without looking up sales numbers my guess is the RAV4 a 25.1 days to sell, has volume massively higher than any Lexus.

Even the glovebox is the hard scratchy stuff, as does the center console where the shifter and infotainment controls are. Pardon my OCD, I just know Lexus can do better given how impressively put together the LS and LC are. The German interiors are definitely a cut above in my book, whereas the IS feels more akin to the Alfa Giulia.

I agree that they can do better. It was one of my biggest gripes as well when I saw the redesign. I actually really like the exterior redesign even though it's more of an extensive facelift vs a redesign, but the interior is inexcusable that it's basically the same as the 3IS.

The upside to the Lexus interior is that you can own it for 10+ years and 200k miles and the interior looks almost new with hardly a single creak or rattle...can't say that about German interiors other than when they are new. Given my track record of swapping cars though, interior (or mechanical) longevity isn't super high on my priority list. Lol

Biggest thing I take from that list is how much of a turnaround the Koreans have made. The Telluride and Palisade aren't cheap vehicles and are incredibly well received and popular. I don't think Genesis will ever be a threat to the Germans but the Japanese better watch out.

Lol. What?

You sound like an automotive white supremacist where only Asians can compete with other Asians.

Lexus is clearly a threat to the Germans in the mass produced segment that includes SUVs and entry level luxury cars.

I agree they're not close to competing with BMW's M division, but that's not the bread and butter for the Germans or the Japanese.

Furthermore, going into a BMW, Audi dealership is more akin to walking into a Kia dealership vs Lexus, which is a significant step up. I didn't realize just how trashy BMW dealerships are until I bought one.
