Exclamation HELP NEEDED! About to buy a 640i

Hello!

I currently have a 2015 M3 and will turn it in soon. I've been always a huge fan of 6 series and found a good car that I'd like to take your opinion on since I've never owned a 6 series before.

It's a 2015 640i GC CPO with 5 year extended warranty bumper-bumper, packages are executive, driver assistance, lighting, cold weather, M sport. 33,xxx miles. Black on Black in above average cosmetic condition, clean carfax, 1 owner (leased).

Asking price is $47,500

My questions are:
- How is the resale value for the 6 series? Will I take a huge hit if I decided to sell within 3-5 years (any different than 3 or 4 series)? Any rough estimate how much $ it depreciates yearly?
- If given the choice, should I go for 650 (apart from a more powerful engine)? Is a smaller engine better for resale?
- Anything to look out for in 6 series as a daily driver? High $ maintenance issues or something?

Attached are some pics of the car

Thanks a lot for your help!

i am in dallas as well and I just got a 650i GC... I was originally looking at a 640, i will say this go drive the 640 then drive a 650.. then you can decipher all the other options you want. But as i continue to get older my driving style has changed but i know i wanted the torque that was offered from the 8 cyl. Also I heard the B&O first, and then hearing the other sound system is like.. "that is not the same.." this is my first BMW period so I went in. As far depreciation this car was close to 100k new, and I got a 13 for less than 35k with around 49k miles so...well more experienced members will chime in... but i love the car so far...

Thanks for your input. Did you get it from a dealer or private party?

Hey m6fanatic ,

I want to say welcome !

I searched for my 640 I xdrive for months before I found it. Personally I prefer the 640 because it has just enough power for me . I came from E30's and E39's so it was plenty of power and reliability was good as well. I purchased mine certified from bmw the car was initially listed for $54k with 34k miles on it i watched the price for about 6 months as the car was sitting ( most of them do) 6 months or more unless its a super rare color combo or is a individual package). in that time It dropped to $42K and I called in negotiated and got it for 40k I thought that was a supurb deal. Whole sale said that this car is worth around $37k(not certified) for a 2015 obviously depending on options. Depreciation is probably ( im guessing )is going to plateau because of the short production time and and the new 6 being ( my least favorite body style ) not as good looking. Also depending on how the 8 series looks as well. I have a strong feeling that it wont do good because it doesn't look like the prototype at all.Go and drive it see what you absolutely must have and start looking you can find deals just have to be patient and know how to negotiate

It seems like the main price holder for 6 series is the lower production numbers. My main concern is the 8 series, well see how that goes. Thanks for the insight!

I would keep looking and get a 650. A low mile 2014 with the n63tu engine would be a great find.

I bought a loaded 2014 CPO 650i (everything minus B&O) with 14k miles for $49k in Oct 2017

I don't think you have to worry too much about the 8 series

heck the new KIA Stinger outperforms the 640 in every category
And matches the Porsche Panamera (V6) in its categories

650 or bust!

What is LCI+? I keep on reading in other posts about how people are having issues with TU engine burning oil and rods breaking... is that going to be a problem on the long run?

Hello from the UK
I can't comment on the 640 or 650 petrol. Cus we are all mainly on diesel over here ... For now anyway while the government decide fully how they are gonna screw us diesel drivers over....!!
Mine is a 640d... What I would say is just buy one... Don't mess about get on with it...
You will not regret it....its in a completely different league to any 3 or 4 series... And your depreciation will equal out somewhere near to what a new one of those would depreciate...
I nearly changed mine a while ago for a brand new 435d... And when I drove home from the dealers having made no deal... I reflected and thought. Wow... That was a lucky escape... Don't know what came over me...
The new 3/4 series car can't compete in anyway with a 6 series..period...
As for the 8 series.. That's what I am waiting for now.. Will it affect 6 series residuals.. Yes slightly... But in our country the older 6 series is still holding up well despite its age and looks for nice examples...
Crack on.. Go and get yourself one... 650 prob for me..,bearing In mind your fuel costs over there...

But its a KIA lol thats the main thing you can get a near perfect example of a 640 or 650 CPO with extremely low miles for the money they are asking for this thing. also remember they are just coming out with it now of course they will build a better than a car that is no longer in production. they are behind the 8 ball too late but good try KIA

My friend just got this car in his inventory he is the pre owned manager it has less than 5k miles on it for $49k with warranty

elaborate on this, as other than the 2013's the anecdotal reports don't bear this out at all.

Why would anybody on this forum site want one of those things...( Kia)
And someone was earlier asking about depreciation....
Well there you go... That's gonna depreciate like mad...
Used 6 series for me every time...
