Thoughts on this listing / value? 2014 650ix $34,000 with only 30K miles
https://www.pearsonford.com/used-Zio...YP1C5XED216401
I am looking for 640ix (2014-2016) convertible but so hard to find. Many more 650ix on the market. Problem is that is too much car for my wife to drive! I am also willing to bet this baby needs the 30K inspection, plus brakes, etc. At least $5K in deferred maintenance. Still can't get thought out of my head getting a great car $70K off what MSRP was with only 30K miles. |

Your wife can drive a 650 the same as a 640. Unless she likes to mash her foot at stoplights she will never know the difference. As a very general matter the 640 engine is considered to be more reliable, but I have had no issues and there are not a lot of posts here to back that up after 2012s or 13s. The asking price is ok for that year and miles, but like most asking prices there is probably room to negotiate. I would not necessarily assume it needs a lot of work, but if you are the type to pay a dealer for an "inspection" then I guess you should figure in some additional cash. It is not loaded, but optioned ok. I personally do not like the all black look, but if you do then nothing jumps out that would suggest you should not buy it.

I see the car is, like you, in Indiana. For a car this rare I shop the entire country. Driving it home is half the fun. I got lucky with my 650 and found it only 550 miles away. But let me give you one odd suggestion, depending on how OCD you are. The pre-2016 navigation screens on these cars have a very delicate anti-reflective coating that cleaning by some dealer lot kid will almost always scratch. You may not even notice with the top up, but with the top down scratches or abrasions will drive you nuts. I suggest you check that before you buy it.

I live around the corner from you in Carmel. My wife convinced me to get a 2013 650 vert that was a lease turn in with 25K mi back 4 yr ago. Car was up in Chicago. So its her daily driver in winters (summers she drives a Corvette) and is the perfect larger car for her. The car now has 35K on it 4yr later, so not much driving. Very little problems other than needing a plug and injector replacement for one cylinder. We did get an extended warranty thru Dreyer & Reinbold BMW (a good dealer for service BTW), thats got about a year to go. We like black, go for it.

Thanks all for the very dignified comments and suggestions. You all certainly know what you are talking about here so appreciate feedback. We plan to test drive on Saturday (if it is sill available). The other thing to add is AWD seem even more hard to find (here in midwest) so we might have to take what we can get and if that means bigger engine / hp she will have to make due with it!

If the V8 is too much power...there’s always eco-pro mode.

We didn't buy car, but question - how the heck does someone 'roll back mileage' on digital readout? Isn't that illegal as hell?

Roll-backs... :/
Quote:
I'm selling my 650i in the UK.. So I did the equivalent of a "CarFax" and was astonished to see a red flag regarding "potential odometer rollback". !? So, back in 2018 I had it in for MOT (inspection) at local dealer and they said one of the wheels was cracked. Even though holding pressure, it would need a new wheel to pass... and a new wheel would come fastest from Germany in a day or so. So, I said... go ahead and I let them grease me for a new wheel at the dealer. When they booked the car in on 16Apr, they entered the mileage as 43,127. HOWEVER, when they closed the job for the MOT/Inspection 2 days later they entered the mileage as 43,126. I didn't notice nor would I have cared, as I was unaware of the issue it would cause. But now, I have a mileage flag on the report due to this 1 mile discrepancy which was surely a typo at the time! And the thorough potential buyers certainly have noticed and asked.... Fortunately it's only 1 mile.. but how many potential buys saw the red flag and just clicked away.. I dunno. ymmv. |

I got my CPO 2016 650i - 34K miles @ $38,000 back in November 2019. 30 grand for a 2014 seems exorbitant.

Depends on options, color, condition. I've seen as much as 10k price difference in same model year cars as a result of those combinations. Not to mention without the M-sport and a "good" color the car looks totally different. My friend likes to say without the right trimming this car looks like it's still under construction...LOL
