BM3 Stg 2 650i against a tuned Carrera 4S

I do not know why but lately I have been having an itch for something different. I love my GC but find I am always doing something to it to keep it feeling "Fresh" or "new". Last mods were catless DP's, stage 2 tune, and MMI unit.

I have always wanted a Porsche and I've been fortunate enough in business that it is no longer just a dream but can become a reality. I do not want to sacrifice much on HP and Torque though. I have come to peace losing things like surround view cameras and true keyless start. The car will only see about 5-7k miles max annually as i only drive the 650i once or twice a week. Always garaged, both at home and at the office.

Anyone with experience with both

I would go for the 4s if you are comfortable financially. Apples to oranges. The 650i was made more for daily comfort while the 4s is a totally different driving experience imo (never drove a Porsche though). The weight difference will make up the power difference and since you barely drive it the Porsche will hold it's value much better than the 650i.

Well for one thing, what generation 911 are you considering. If you are talking a 996 gen, then in my opinion you're downgrading. A 991 or 992 on the other hand would be an upgrade. Also consider your preference...do you prefer more a comfortable grand tourer (with some speed) or a more dedicated sports car. Do you need the back seats, because the ones in the Porsche are useless. There will be some trade offs either way. But if indeed you are talking 991 gen or newer (2013 and up), I would go for the Porsche hands down. The only reason I have my GC is because my kids are 4 and 7 so I need the back seat

It would be a 991.2 Carerra 4S or GTS. 2017 or 2018 MY. I would love to find one in Graphite Blue Metallic. No baby seats or dirty feet in the back seats in the GC and definitely not in the Porsche. Have 2 suv's for transporting the kids around. I think my next step would be to just go and test drive one..... I may possibly not be completely convinced. Speed is good but overall feel, ride quality, and creature comfort plays a big part.

If you find one optioned properly, the 991.2 is in the same ballpark as the 650 in terms of creature comforts/features. It's almost a no brainer since you have 2 SUVs for child transport. The only reason I say "almost" is because my kids love riding around, getting picked up from school, etc. in the "cool" car. Also although 911s have a distinct sound, I would miss the sound of the V8.

I have a 997.1 and its nothing like the 650i. Also, the tech in the 991.1 is no where near as good as in the 650i. The stock exhaust in my 650i is way to muted. The 8 speed is a bit mushy comparted to a dct.

The first question is back seat. The 911 is useless so if you need one forget that. Get an M6 instead. I loved my M6 and would have kept except for oil consumption and no warranty issues.

650i is a fast luxury gt, the 911 is a stiff small sportscar with gt pretensions.

Also, the 650i depreciates like a mad man. My $103k 59k mile 2007 911 Carrera S is worth more than my $100k 39k mile 2016 650i.

Depreciation is terrible on the 650i. I only have 27k on the odometer and it is a 2015. Been garaged for 95% of its life and never seen salt but KBB does not care about that stuff. Just worth a third of original 108k sticker price if I'm lucky.

Back seats would just be for looks. I would only take the 911 out with the wife, a friend, or solo. I am worried about dated tech though so i would have to thoroughly go through all that during a test drive

So long as you are financially sound, i'd go for it.
