Ride comfortness in Coupe vs GC

Hello all

So my car just arrived at the dealer today from Florida and went for a test drive, Funny thing is I never drove the M6 before and I didn't see this car until today lol I just liked the car from online so I paid 2k to get it transferred and it took about 2.5 weeks to get here finally. Paperwork should be prepared tomorrow and I should have this in my possession within the next 3 days.

My question now is that so one of my friends own an M6 Coupe and he was telling me about how hard it rides and how uncomfortable the ride is although he loves his car to death he wishes sometimes that he has a comfort daily. However, after doing my test drive I felt really weird about how comfortable it feels, I was expecting it to be very hard based on what my friend told me.

I've driven in comfort mode first and the driving felt like I was in a nice luxury sedan and I tried the sports mode but it wasn't that hard either ( I didn't try the sports+ ). Overall, it's not a complaint and I'm rather happy how comfortable it is and I think my wife would even appreciate it.

So I told my friend about my experience and he believes that the coupe and GC rides differently so I wanted to throw this out here to see what you guys can tell me about the difference in comfort level between Coupe vs GC or if it even makes any difference.

This is 2015 M6GC with Competition Package 20" wheels Style 601 I think

Thanks!

I have a 2017 M6 coupe as well and I find it to be a comfortable ride. I put it on comfort setting for regular street driving and it rides fine. At times it may be a little hard due to potholes and uneven surfaces. But I can drive it daily without any complaints. I too was like you expecting a "hard" ride. To my joy I find it very drive able and very happy with the ride. On the freeways I like to sharpen up the ride so I will put it on sport or sport plus. Just my thoughts.

On sport+ for the suspension it is definitely a bit stiff but in comfort or sport it is absolutely fine I think, I've done a bunch of 6+ hour drives in my car and have never had any issues with comfort.

I haven't driven a GC for a while though so I can't say for sure about that, but my Coupe is comfy

The M6 GC comp package rides is stiffer than the non-comp package. The springs anti roll bars are 20% stiffer. There is a noticeable difference between the comp and non-comp.

My coupe is very comfortable to drive. I’ll adjust my settings for the momentary need, but it is still always a comfortable ride with gravitasse.

Thank you all for sharing your experience, it seems that it is generally accepted as a comfortable ride maybe my friend was comparing to some other more comfortable car lol ok so its good to know that everyone shares the same impression the ride comfort level!

This makes sense. I've not been one to complain about harsh rides (previous car was an FD RX7 on coilovers) but I found for the first time I'm noticing how stiff the ride on my F06 is. Comp pack + run flats make it really noticeable on the shit roads in this area, even in comfort mode.

The two chassis should ride the same as they used the exact same suspension components. The coupe may have different spring rates, but I doubt it is that. To summarize potential variables between how to otherwise identical M6 cars having different ride qualities (generally arranged in the order of the highest impact to lower impact):

1. Wheel size (19s vs 20s)
2. Tire sidewall spec and type
3. EDC setting
4. Variability in road conditions
5. Tire pressure
6. Age and condition of suspension components
7. ZCP suspension vs non-ZCP suspension (roll bars, spring rates and damper rates differ)
8. Differences in subjective feel when sitting in the driver vs passenger seats.
9. Rear spring compression due to weight of dead hooker in trunk
10. Coupe having different spring rates to accommodate lighter weight

I’m currently driving an M6 GC, had a Coupe (F13) before this, both competition packs, same tyre size and model, same driving conditions - zero difference in ride comfort, unless you consider the longer wheelbase in the GC adding a minor level of comfort. This goes to the bucket of someone liking the skinny ones, the other one the less skinny ones...

I was enjoying the technical facts until I came across the dead hooker in the trunk. Now the explanation makes complete sense!

I'd like to ride in your car next time. My life is clearly un-exciting.

Or with a Coupe that's just a way to carry more than two people whether alive or dead

My e38 had a sticker in the trunk showing how to place 4 golf club bags or 3 bodies...it didn't specify if the bodies were dead or alive...I guess it left it up to how fresh you wanted them to be:
