I bought my Macan S on launch day (5/14/14)...cash price of $62K. Sold 5/20/19 for $38K....that's $24K depreciation for 5 years and 56,000 miles. It was in showroom condition, and $400/mo depreciation was fantastic. I don't think future resale will be quite as strong due to higher pricing (new comparable S today would be $12K higher), and little updating has occurred due to anticipated conversion to electric. It was a fantastic ride. Great handling without the punishing ride, great design, great sound...I bought the right car at exactly the right time. Wanted the newly designed Cayenne, but the X5 was just too close to the Cayenne...more goodies, same power, way less $$$. Love my X5 (but wish it looked/sounded as good as the Porsche).

I was very close to getting an X4 M40i, but felt it was just lacking that little extra. I said in a previous post that if the X4M had been out, I probably would have stayed BMW. Once I drove a regular Macan and then Macan S, I was like wow. But then I saw an awesome deal on a CPO Turbo that was just a bit more than I was expecting to pay and have to say, there isn’t much that can touch it IMO in its segment.

I just don't understand why you'd buy a Macan unless you can only have one car.

I've had several different Panameras, Macans and Cayennes as loaners over the years. If you want something that handles well and can move some stuff around, the Panamera wagon/hatch is the best. If you want something that sits up & hauls stuff, get a Cayenne. The Macan is nice but it sits in a strange place. Drives fine, but doesn't handle like a Panamera, can't haul more stuff than a Panamera, and is much smaller than a Cayenne in terms of rear passenger space & cargo...

I suppose this is why they make so many models. I also don't have to live with only one car, but even if I did, it probably wouldn't be a Macan...

New trend....compart SUVs. Some might like the way Macan looks. But I agree, it's sized like a small sedan which makes it useless as SUV. I considered Macan until I saw the cargo space

Same here - cargo space disqualified Macan in favor of X5.

Oh, I get it. People like different things & this class of vehicle appears to be hot. I just don't get it personally. It kind of offends the engineer in me... it's a non-optimal solution to any car question I ask.

But they are pretty.

I'm also the guy who lobbies for my wife to drive a minivan for functionality and loses every couple of years, so what do I know? LOL

I dunno, cargo space works for me when I need it, but I’m not buying 86” TVs every week. It’s much more spacious and functional than my 135is was and definitely has the amount of performance I was looking for. I also like the fit and finish, no rattles or squeaks, car seems really tight.

Yeah, the Macan actually has the same wheelbase and length as an M4.

What I'd love to see Porsche make is a two-door sports car with usable backseats. Something front-engined (similar to the old 924/944) that would compete with the M2, but I know people aren't buying those types of cars right now.

They're way cheaper. I agree though, we just moved across town and it's amazing how much stuff we could put in the Panamera.

Nope, not in any hurry. Debating waiting to see how the 911 does in the winter then decide if I'm keeping the 128i or selling it for something else. Right now I have limited parking so having it around is a pain but come winter the Z4 will be stored. Have a hard time giving up the 128i because of the rear seat/storage in the trunk that it would give up. Maybe it just needs a tune...or supercharger.

I wish the Panarama could be had with a stick

Yeah, I’m a one car kinda guy (my wife has the SUV,) and I got a 135i, because I found it to be the right compromise. Before that, I had a 911 then Cayman, and, like my 135i, I took those cars camping, shopping, snowboarding, road trips, etc. It’s really just the rear seat room that got me into a BMW, which is why I wish Porsche made a new sports car, as I mentioned above.

That being said, I think Porsches are a blast in the winter. The engine gives you nice weight near the drive wheels, so it feels planted, but it’s certainly no 4x4. Granted, I grew up driving in Indiana on bald tires as a teen, so I may just be crazy.

Yeah, I live in the city in Portland, so garage space thankfully keeps me from getting too tempted. A buddy of mine actually pays for an off-site spot downtown to garage his former 1M, and now NSX, but I like to keep things simple.

Essentially as fast as a 1 Series M and not that far behind an M2.
