Check Engine Light Issue
Hi All,
Car drives fine after sorting issue with door handles, DSC fuse and battery change. I cleared all previous codes, but the ones below remain and the check engine light. Please see attached image. The top two - I don't know what they mean but the bottom ones are related to the door handles. I am waiting for the new door handles to arrive in the post. Any insight will be much appreciated. |

SHD is the roof function center module…you wrote that you changed the car’s battery. When there’s a loss of power, the sunroof usually needs to be reinitialized…if you didn’t reinitialize the sunroof..it probably isn’t working correctly…so the ”no normalization” code means you probably need to reset the sunroof.
See the owners manual for instructions on how to reinitialize the sunroof…some BMW requires the engine is running…some just need the power on…I forget what the F chassis 6 series calls for…so see your owners manual. You say you have a CEL (check engine light) but I don’t see any OBD II codes that indicate anything from the car’s emissions system has set a fault code. EDIT: see info below from owners manual…the engine must be running on the f06/f12/f13 to reset the sunroof.

🙏🏾 Thank you so much. Sorted the sunroof. I noticed it wasn’t opening and closing as usual.
I wonder what’s responsible for the CEL light. I have now disconnected the negative side of the battery. I will leave it like that for about an hour and reconnect, then report back. Read on some forum that sometimes the CEL does this after limp mode issue is sorted and disconnecting battery resolves it. |

Have you done any work or modifications to the steering wheel? It sounds like something involved with that module has an interruption on its communication bus.
Sometimes there are two or more modules/components that operate a feature (or features)…one of the modules will be a master, and sends data to the other module(s).

No mods whatsoever to the steering. Everything drives/works brilliantly otherwise.
After disconnecting battery for a few minutes, CEL light is gone. No fault on dash. All info on there are now more accurate, especially the MPG. I need to connect ISTA again and check whatever fault codes remain, then report back. |
