Zip-tie mod

For those that have done the zip tipe mod on their exhausts, how in the world do you keep the valve open?! I tried pushing it open with a hard object, but could not get the valve to open up entirely.

I used a screwdriver and wedged a small pair of pliers in to keep the screwdriver from sliding over.
