650i Loosing oil - Where should I start?

Hi,

My 2008 650i Convertible looses lots of oil.
I got 110k miles on it. Car runs great, no issues.
I don't see any oil leaks when car is standing, running or not. But I still find myself adding oil often (I would estimate 0.5 quart every 400/500 miles).
Is this normal? should I look for other issues?
Also, what's the best way to check my oil level? Physically on the stick? with the car running or not? Or electronically from the car?

When engine is cold and I check the stick, oil level is on the minimum.
When engine is hot and I check electronically from the car the oil level is good.

Thanks

Your generation of BMW V8 engines are known for oil consumption. (just do a search and you will see you are not alone. Many of them burn oil at 1 Q per 800 miles which BMW says is "normal". There is a lot of discussion available on the forums.

This forum is really for cars from 2012-2018. If you find an online forum for your model I'm sure you will find posts about oil consumption. There is not a forum on this site for your car, but they do exist.

I assumed it's for all 6 series, but thank you for letting me know!
Will do my search.

Many leaks on the N62, poor seals quality :

- Alternator bracket
- Valve stems seals
- vaccum pump
- valve cover
- timing covers
