m6- will 315/35/20 fit
I already know from searching that 315/30/20 will fit but I see lots of 315/35/20 choices.... so I'm wondering if anyone has tried them?
also, since our cars' speedo is showing faster than actual, maybe the extra height of the tire would make it more accurate... has anyone tried the 315/35/20? if so, which brand? these 295's P-Zero's stink... I spin like crazy even when not hammering the car.

A 30 profile on a 315 would be much better with 6 mill ride height gain A 305/30 would be perfect for the 10.5 wheel with a 3 mill ride height gain and minimal loss on speedo. Have you not tried MPSS tyres, they offer great traction and hard to beat for fast road use. Please note Offsets have been taken from the 601 20 inch wheels, but will give same results for your offsets Last edited by melvyn; 02-25-2017 at 02:12 AM.. |

It's such a bad idea at all!
305/30/20 is a good idea BTW

I ran a 305/35/20 and it looked fine on a 20X10 with a 265/35/20 up front on a 20X9. If you want traction, you're gonna need a softer tire like the 555R or the R888, Sport Cup 2, etc. Going a little wider but staying with the medium/hard compound tires isn't going to do much when you're pushing 650+wtq on a RWD car.

uhg...
I figured the extra patch from the 315/35 vs. 305/30 would help out the grip some... my speedo (with the OE tires) is showing about 5% faster than the GPS is showing... so the larger dia was going to help solve that problem I was mostly worried about rubbing (either the fender lip or some component inside- like the shock or spring). I may just give the new Michelin PS4 a try and see how it goes. I drove "drag radials" on my 750hp supra (and on my turbo m3), but once it rains (and this is my DD), those tires are flat dangerous... so I don't want to do that w/ this car.

I agree M6-coupe,,, I had decided from the previous posts along with my concern of rubbing & possible awkward look that I would stick with the 305/30/20. I know from "upsizing" 1 width size, grip will improve without much (if any) negative attributes. My wife's CLS AMG spun her 285's P-zero's like crazy, I put 295 Conti extreme's on and it got amazingly better. I'm probably going to order the new Michelin Super Sport replacement- the Pilot Sport 4S and hope for the best. I was tempted to get the Pilot Cup 2's, but I'm betting I would only get about 6 months out of those (I drive 50-60 miles round trip per work-day).

I agree, the Nitto's seem to harden up over time... I think the Michelins seem to stay consistent over time.

Nitto did last just couple of months ... maybe 3-4k miles but I had MPSS for about 9-10 months... something about 10k!

315/35/20 btw is OEM BMW X5 tire size, that's why you see so many options out there.

I live in SoCal, it rains a month out of the year pretty much, haha. I figured these Corsa's will give me the traction I need and hold up better than the R888 or NT05, which are pretty much the only options in the 315/30 range. For sure these will give me better traction than any other 305/30 is why i am thinking them over.

That's the downside and the reason I keep looking at Pirelli 305/35/20 P-Zero's. I know some might not agree with the look and the loss of a tiny bit of handling from the rear height difference, but if you want to be safer with a car making 650+tq at the wheels you have to sacrifice something.

I have a set of 305/30-20 P zeroes brand new I can sell to you if you are interested, however, I am located in Houston, so we would have to arrange for shipping.

I ended up getting 265/35/20 MPSS on front and 305/30/20 M Pilot Sport Cup 2's for the rear... way better grip (although still can't nail it from a stand still without wild spinning) but at least once a little spin is over, they grip. even with spin, I'm getting a 3.57 0-60 time. if I can figure out how to feather the launch (with DCT), it should be a 3.2 to 3.3 0-60mph time. I also haven't figured out how to do launch control... so I need to figure that out because I think the computer maximizes the power without the spin for the best 0-60 time... but I could be naive'
but the point was that this set up is LIGHT YEARS better than the Pirellis that the car came with. I was spinning all the time... and I even thought the car had suspension issues because it would change directions as you drove aggressively in a straight line... I was going to have BMW check ball joints, sway bars, links, etc... with the new Michelins, it's straight as an arrow when accelerating. whew,, much less butt pucker now!
