640D Blocked DPF and Drivetrain Malfunction
Hi Guys,
I recently started getting the Drive train malfunction warning and at first it did not affect the performance and would appear maybe every few weeks. Now i get the same message but there is a loss of power. I took it into BMW for a service as it still has service pack. Service was carried out and i asked them to take a look at the drivetrain warning. They had a look and said there was a issue with the diesel particular filter pressure sensor/13628507634. Called back and advised it did not fix the issue and gave me a number of parts lists which they will replace and see if it fixes the issue. I was not happy with that as it sounded like they had no clue what the problem is and even after getting a bunch of parts replaced the problem could still be there. I did agree to get a exhaust gas pressure pipe replaced as they said it was blocked. Part 13628507790. Got the car back and problem was still there so i took it to my local BMW specialist to take a look. I was advised that the DPF was totally blocked and a pipe had come off becuase of the pressure and the heat caused it to melt and also melted a sensor. (Will have to confirm the part numbers) DPF was cleaned, new pipe, new sensor. I do not do alot of mileage and was advised not to use the cheaper supermarket fuel. They also found a error code regarding the vacuum pipes which i got replaced. Now they are getting a error regarding charging pressure but they have checked and all pressure is normal. Turbo has also been checked which is fine. I did have the EGR cooler replaced after a recall by BMW. They will be checking around the EGR tomorrow to see if all the seals and any wiring around that area is ok. Regarding the DPF, is there any other reason that it could get blocked and not regenerate other than low miles and supermarket fuel? Maybe the temperature sensor was bad and it wasnt triggering the regen? Also i would have thought BMW would notice if the DPF is blocked and a pipe along with a sensor has melted when looking for the drivetrain fault. |

So the garage is saying the car is getting a back pressure error but pressure after testing is normal but the code is still being thrown up.
Cannot quite recall but he mentioned either the front or the back of the turbo is what is throwing up the pressure code. Turbo was tested and is working fine. Car is running normal but error code is popping up. They are going to be looking around the EGR today and various other seals, pipes and wiring. |

Ok, so just had a word with the garage again and they cannot figure out why the drivetrain light is still randomly popping up. They have checked all the sensors, pipes and pressure reading. Everything is fine.
The car is not losing power and everything is running good but just the drivetrain light pops up and says something to do with back pressure issue even though all pressure readings are good. Could it be that the DPF is still blocked? |
